BRENHAM, Texas (AP) — Blue Bell Creameries has told federal inspectors that it believes listeria bacteria spread at its Oklahoma plant through a drainage system.The Texas-based ice cream company revealed the findings in documents sent to the Food and Drug Administration.

Former Georgia deputy sheriff arrested on sexual assault charges

WINDER, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a former deputy sheriff in northeast Georgia has been arrested on sexual assault charges from an incident involving a woman in custody.Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles says 42-year-old William Stephenson Mitchell is charged with sexual assault after he took a woman in custody to the Bartow County Jail on March 12. Mitchell had been employed at the Barrow County deputy sheriff for eight years.Mitchell was also charged with false statements or writings and violation of oath of public office.

 

Savannah-Chatham police investigate body found on Garrard Ave.

Violent Crimes detectives of Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department have initiated an investigation into the death of an unidentified adult female whose body was found Saturday morning behind a vacant house on the 5500 block of Garrard Avenue, according to spokesperson Eunicia Baker.Metro officers responded to the scene just before 9 a.m. Preliminary investigation reveals no obvious signs of foul play. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab will schedule an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

 

Los Angeles father charged with killing son for being gay

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man accused of fatally shooting his son outside a home where his wife was found dead has been charged with one count of premeditated murder as a hate crime, with prosecutors alleging he killed his son for being gay.Shehada Issa, 69, told police he shot his son Amir in self-defense after he discovered his wife's body in their house. An investigation into Issa's wife's death is ongoing.The Los Angeles County district attorney's office said Friday that Issa had previously threatened to kill his 29-year-old son for being gay.
