URBANA — Lawyers are expected to make their opening statements Wednesday in the trial of accused kidnapper and killer Brendt Christensen, U.S. District Judge James Shadid said at the third day of jury selection in Peoria.

 

Champaign County property-tax bills now in the mail

URBANA — Champaign County property-tax bills should be arriving in the mail soon.
The county treasurer's office said the bills for 2018 taxes payable this summer were mailed Friday, so property owners should be getting them this week.
The first installment payment will come due July 1, according to the treasurer's office.

Telephone scammers claim to be from Douglas County Sheriff's Office

TUSCOLA — The Douglas County sheriff is warning residents about a telephone scam going on in the county.
Sheriff Joshua Blackwell said a woman reported taking a call from a man who identified himself as Deputy Toby Marshall with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and told her there was a warrant for her arrest.
