After a lot of rain, most area crops are finally in the ground

Local farmers have rushed to plant in the small pockets of dry weather available this spring.

It was all hands on deck at Dennis Riggs' family farm late last week, when sons Darin and Matthew took the afternoon off work at Riggs Beer Company, which they own, to plant crops and finish a planting season that has gone much later than typical years.

$240 million budgeted for nursing homes 'means survival'

Of that amount, $70 million will be directly appropriated to help meet minimum staffing requirements. The other $170 million will update the reimbursement formula for support costs such as food, utilities, maintenance and equipment.

Champaign police make second arrest in 2018 murder

Jaquaveon Faust, 22, was arrested Thursday in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old David Sankey.

CHAMPAIGN — Police on Thursday made a second arrest in an August 2018 murder.
About 12:35 p.m., Champaign detectives and members of the Street Crimes Task Force arrested Jaquaveon Faust, 22, of Champaign in connection with the Aug. 28 fatal shooting of 16-year-old David Sankey.
