STAMFORD — Witnesses to the shooting death of Maxine Gooden in Lione Park last year have been called to testify during a special hearing at the Stamford courthouse Wednesday. Hayes’ attorney, Darnell Crosland, said that he does not believe that prosecutors have the evidence to level the accessory charge, which is basically a murder charge and punishable by up to 60 years in prison.

Police found Quinones lying on the side of a bed at the Super8 motel on Grenhart Road on Sept. 24, 2015, wearing only boxers that were stuffed with 59 glassine folds of heroin.

The NOC squad obtained a search warrant for Quinones’ motel room after they learned a man was selling drugs out of there.

Police found inside the room’s safe a .45-caliber Glock pistol loaded with five rounds, 6.4 grams of crack cocaine in a plastic bag and 20 glass vials containing small amounts of that drug.

STAMFORD — Police are investigating after at least two pedestrians were struck in separate accidents Tuesday morning.

The first accident was reported about 9 a.m. near Stamford Twin Rinks in Springdale. A witness said he saw a Jeep strike a man as the driver turned left from Hope Street onto Camp Avenue.

The victim had an apparent head injury, according to scanner reports.

About 30 minutes later, another pedestrian was hit on Atlantic Street near South State Street. Dispatchers said the injuries in that accident appeared minor.

No details were immediately available.

Police said Villa-Cabrera had adequate line of sight and road width when his van struck the student on Strawberry Hill Avenue on Nov. 5.

Since the accident, city officials have held at least two press conferences to announce new safety measures in the area.

STAMFORD — A “swap shop” may soon be established on Magee Avenue, a place where residents could drop off or acquire furniture, sporting goods, toys and other discarded items for free.

A $12,000 grant from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection would be used to purchase a shed for 90 Magee Ave., the site of the city’s highway department garage.

The incident comes about a month and a half after an earlier incident that occurred close by when two men fired 10 to 15 shots at each other outside the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World club on Mission Street on Oct. 30.

By 9:30 a..m., the precipitiation had turned to sleet and freezing rain along the shoreline.

While there have been caused no major accidents, there were dozens of spinouts and fender benders across southwest Connecticut.

Northbound Route 8 in Shelton was partially closed around 9 a.m.

STAMFORD — A New Canaan father accused of providing the heroin that caused his son’s fatal overdose in September pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of second-degree manslaughter.

After an investigation, New Canaan police put out a warrant for Lynch’s arrest on charges of second-degree manslaughter, possession of narcotics and illegal distribution of hallucinogenic narcotics.

Darryl Wright, 31, was sitting in a gray Jeep on the corner of Atlantic Street and Lipton Place when an officer working with the police department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad approached the car about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
