Boyfriend charged with stealing car in Stamford

STAMFORD-The boyfriend of a Rippowam Middle School teacher was jailed for stealing the woman’s car and driving it to a pharmacy where he was found huffing on a household cleaning product.

The woman told police that she believed Runyon, who she said was addicted to huffing a compressed air cleaning product called Dust-Off, may have taken her car to get more Dust-Off.

Blanc said the officer could see Runyon, who had a suspended license in the front passenger seat huffing on a can of Dust-Off.

 

Discarded pistol found in Stamford vacuum truck

Sgt. Simon Blanc said police were called to the city garage on Magee Avenue just after 1 p.m. Wednesday to report that a worker doing an annual inspection and maintenance on one of the city’s vacuum trucks found a pistol.

Blanc said that the .25 caliber Raven semi-automatic pistol was found wedged inside a small cage at the top of the 10-yard capacity cylinder used to collect catch basin debris on the back of the truck.

 

Police look for early morning purse snatcher in Stamford

DiCarlo said that police are studying video of the theft and a description of the thief was unavailable.

Given the early morning hour of the incident, investigators are trying to determine whether the purse snatching was a crime of opportunity or the man was lying in wait for the woman.

Investigators quietly walked Elmer Gomez Ruano, 32, into the sally port behind Stamford police headquarters just before 12:30 p.m. About the only sound that came from the group as they made their way through a door was that of the chain slapping the ground that was attached to Ruano’s ankles.

DeSoto said the Lexus struck a tree and then rolled over onto its roof.Upon his arrival, the on-scene commander for the Norwalk Fire Dept. radioed that one person was trapped in the vehicle and another on the ground.

 

Carts littering street push Cove man to brink

Robert Leder, 46, of Van Buskirk Avenue was charged with first-degree criminal mischief and was released after posting a $25,000 court appearance bond.

According to Leder’s two-page arrest affidavit, police were notified in late September that ShopRite was finding dozens of badly damage shopping carts in a certain area of The Cove.

According to the affidavit, Leder told the officer that he had been taking the carts for the past two and one-half weeks and damaging them because he was tired seeing them abandoned on his street.

STAMFORD — Police responding to a medical call in North Stamford arrested a New York man for threatening someone with a gun Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Lt. Tom Barcello said that police were responding to a medical call on Den Road when they heard that someone had threatened someone else in the home with a gun.

STAMFORD — Two patrons were stabbed after a fight erupted at Curley’s Diner early Wednesday morning, leaving blood all over the popular downtown eatery, police said.

The incident began after a 27-year-old Stamford man, who was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, came into the restaurant about 1 a.m. and got into an argument with four other patrons who were sitting at a table near him, police said.
