Stamford police launch distracted driving campaign

Gallagher held a cup of coffee to hide his police radio that he used to alert officers of distracted drivers as they passed the Broad Street intersection.

Gallagher, who has previously posed as a construction worker and surveyor, spearheaded the police department’s launch of the state Department of Transportation’s U Drive.

Eight drivers were cited for running red lights (all on Washington Boulevard) and two motorists received tickets for putting on makeup while driving.

The Stamford crackdown, which continues until April 30, is conducted in partnership with the state DOT and the Natio

 

Model Stephanie Seymour due in Stamford court Tuesday

The Greenwich woman, a former model for Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated, will be in the Stamford courthouse to find out whether the case will be dismissed. The court will likely dismiss the charges if Seymour has successfully completed alcohol abuse treatment, attended alcohol education classes and met with victims of drunken driving accidents as part of a probationary program for first offenders.

 

‘My body is not a public space:’ sexual assault awareness campaign

STAMFORD — The posters feature male and female bodies with messages like “my body is not a public space” written on necks, chests and legs.

For its most recent awareness campaign, Reveal to Heal, the Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling displayed about 10 photographs at the Stamford Government Center featuring models overlaid with statements meant to provoke a dialogue about sexual assault.

Another poster says “drunk doesn’t mean ‘yes,’” and explains that alcohol is involved in 97 percent of college sexual assaults.

 

Man shot in neck at West Side barbershop

Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin, head of the department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit said there were no preceding incidents in the area on Saturday night that appear connected to the shooting.

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. when a gunman fired several shots of semi-automatic gunfire through a window at the shop facing Rose Park Avenue into the Two Brothers Barber Shop at 188 West Main Street, striking the 26-year-old man in the neck, Conklin said.

 

Social media post prompts arrest, lockdown at Stamford High

STAMFORD — A photo of a boy holding a shotgun with a threatening remark posted on social media was the latest in a series of alarming messages that have prompted school lockdowns in the area. The 14-year-old boy who took the photo was charged with threatening on Friday morning, but the school was locked down from 7:30 to 11 a.m. to “ensure there were no others involved in the potential situation,” according to Sharon Beadle, a spokeswoman for Stamford Public Schools.

 

McDonald’s slay co-conspirator takes plea in Stamford

STAMFORD-The co-defendant of the 17-year-old boy who last week took a manslaughter plea for stabbing a man to death outside MacDonald’s two years ago, ended up taking his own deal during a brief hearing at the Stamford courthouse Friday morning.

Raid leads Stamford police to pot and stolen pink gun

STAMFORD-A police raid on North Stamford home netted more than four ounces of marijuana and a stolen pink handgun that was illegally in the possession of a convicted felon, police said.

Conklin said the raid came after several weeks of investigation where officers obtained enough evidence to get a search warrant signed by a judge.

Police arrested Marquette Wilson, 21, and charged him with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, operating a drug factory, criminal possession of a firearm and theft of a firearm.

Police: Social media posts spur Stamford attacks

STAMFORD — A 19-year-old city woman has been accused of two separate attacks that were apparently spurred by social media posts, police said.

Police said the first incident occurred following a Friday night football game in October.

Bragg was charged Wednesday with second-degree assault and held her in lieu of a $75,000 court appearance bond.

 

Teachers stolen phone tracked to teen’s back back in Stamford

STAMFORD-A Westhill High Student who filched a teacher’s cell phone was tracked down and the device recovered on the street in the South End Wednesday night by tracking the signal of the stolen phone.

The youth, whose name wasn’t released by police because of his age, was charged with fifth-degree larceny and was returned to the custody of his parents.

 

Stamford confessional marred by New Jersey transient

STAMFORD-A New Jersey transient was charged with criminal mischief after police say he defecated inside a downtown church confessional Wednesday afternoon.

After being charged with criminal mischief, burglary and disorderly conduct, Hurt was held in lieu of a $2,500 court appearance bond and will be arraigned on the charges Thursday.
