Police ID woman who jumped from Stamford overpass

Authorities said Abbey Meany, 27, of Belltown Road, Stamford, jumped from the East Main Street overpass near exit 9, fell on the left northbound lane and was struck by at least one vehicle Thursday morning.

The incident, reported about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, led to the closure of two northbound lanes for about two hours, causing traffic delays for miles.

 

Crews battle Stamford house fire in freezing cold

Deputy Chief John Pritchard said in a release that it took crew 90 minutes to extinguish the fire, battling both sub-freezing temperatures and “dangerously icy conditions.”

Eight engines, one ladder truck, one heavy rescue, four tanker trucks, three chief officers, about 40 firefighters, police and Emergency Medical Services assisted.

Stamford coupled charged by feds with operating an investment scheme

According to a Friday press release from Deirdre Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, the indictment was returned Wednesday against Thomas Connerton, 64, and Jean Erickson, 62, who are alleged to have swindled their victims through an investment scheme.

According to the indictment, Connerton was the founder, president and CEO of Safety Technologies, LLC, a Connecticut company founded in 2006.

Mom arrested at school fight in Stamford

STAMFORD-While two female students were fighting as the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering was letting out Thursday afternoon, police said they had to arrest the mother of one of the girls.

Sgt. Simon Blanc said Student Resource Officer Carl Franzetti called for backup at 2 p.m.

 

Trump Parc Woman says missing $84K ring was stolen

STAMFORD-A downtown Trump Parc woman claims that someone got into her apartment while she was on vacation and snatched at ring worth a whopping $84,000, police said.

The woman said she got back from a two-week vacation on Feb. 16 and realized when she got back to Stamford’s tallest building that the valuable wedding ring was missing.

 

Entreprenuers invited to Stamford library program

The program, in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, is called 1 Million Cups, based on the idea that entrepreneurs network and discover solutions over a million cups of coffee.

Well known Stamford attorney charged again with stealing from estates

STAMFORD-Well known former probate and real estate attorney from Stamford, Morris Glucksman, 69, has been arrested for the second time, this time for allegedly stealing nearly $160,000 from a client’s estate, police said.

After becoming aware a warrant had been signed for his arrest, Glucksman turned himself over to police on Thursday morning and immediately posted a $25,000 court appearance bond and was released.

The Office of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel, which pursues grievance complaints against attorneys on behalf of its clients, pushed for Glucksman to surrender his license after

 

Homeless man charged with assault at Bedford Street McDonald’s

STAMFORD-A homeless man was arrested and charged with spitting on a woman and threatening to kill a McDonald’s cashier Wednesday night.

Blanc said that a woman complained to police that a man she knows from the homeless shelter, Kevin Joyner, 52, approached her as she was sitting on the ground on the Bedford Street side and began swearing at her as he walked up.

Joyner, who also appeared intoxicated, also refused to leave and was placed in handcuffs and booked on charges of assault, disorderly conduct and threatening, Blanc said.

Police investigate fatal pedestrian accident on I-95 in Stamford

STAMFORD — State Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who jumped from an East Main Street overpass onto Interstate 95 near exit 9 Thursday morning.

Two northbound lanes remained closed around 1 p.m., though police reopened the exit 9 on-ramp to the northbound side of the highway.
