Southfield woman records video of man entering apartment; neighbor charged with home invasion

A Southfield man was arrested after his neighbor recorded video of him entering her apartment and going through her purse, Southfield police say.The woman told police that for weeks, money kept disappearing from her purse, which she hung on a doorknob near the front door.She lost several hundred dollars before realizing that someone had to be entering her apartment.

 

1 year in jail, probation for teen who gave car keys to drunken driver in fatal crash

A Commerce Township teenager will spend at least six months in jail for her role in a car crash that killed one friend and left herself and the other occupants injured in 2016.In sentencing Sophia Buttazzoni on Wednesday, Oakland Circuit Judge James Anderson gave the 19-year-old a year in jail, suspended after 183 days - which means she won't have to serve the balance if she keeps out of trouble - followed by five years probation with the threat of prison time hanging over her head.

The Ferndale School District announced its 2018 Teacher of the Year Award winners - Heather Williams from Ferndale Upper Elementary School, Allison Hancock from Ferndale Middle School and Bob Henderson from Ferndale High School. Berkley American Legion Post works towards helping a half-million vets

American Legion Stephen J. Fons Post 374 in Berkley recently presented U.S. Air Force veteran and Metro Freedom Center staff member Tim Wirkus with a check for $500 to help cover the costs of operation for the center.#xa0; Since opening on Nov. 11, 2011, the centers at Metro Airport have served almost 500,000 active-duty, veterans, dependents and retirees.

Northville onprofit offers training to residents with autism

The Northville-based nonprofit Living and Learning is holding an open house from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 22. Living and Learning provides social and job skills training to teens and adults with autism and other special needs. Dozens of front porches in Ferndale neighborhoods are in for a rhythmic workout.The second annual music event called The Front Porch returns for six hours starting at noon Saturday, featuring 57 performers on 27 porches.Michael Benghiat, co-founder of the festival, said it started last year with fewer performances and porches and drew an estimated 5.
