Falling scaffolding closes Atlantic Street

STAMFORD — Falling scaffolding resulted in the closure of Atlantic Street southbound between Broad and Main streets Thursday afternoon.

Police said they’re awaiting a repair contractor to arrive after the scaffolding damaged a car.

 

After complaints, Stamford police seize ‘loud motorcycle’

STAMFORD — Following numerous complaints about a Springdale man who was disturbing his neighbors with his loud motorcycle every morning, police seized the vehicle after learning he had no license or insurance, authorities said.

Hope Street residents near the Putter Drive area told police the motorcycle “revs its engine, spins its tires and takes off at a high rate of speed” every morning between 7:30 and 8 a.m., an activity they said is “very annoying and troublesome,” according to a news release.

 

Gun trial coming for man’s friend in Stamford

When Norwalk police rolled up to the scene, they found Presley Nau giving CPR to a gunshot victim lying in the street, according to Nau’s arrest warrant.

Inside the backpack, police found Nau’s cell phone, a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol loaded with 6 bullets, a white mask, a black skully, a G2 drink bottle and a Sesame Street baseball cap.

Police had the contents of the bag analyzed and a year later found that Nau’s DNA was a match for the mask, But the DNA found on the gun, the baseball cap and the G2 drink bottle were mixtures of DNA.

Suspended sentence for $31K shoplifter in Stamford

STAMFORD-A heartfelt apology earned a Norwalk man a suspended prison sentence for helping to shoplift over $30,000 worth of goods from the now shuttered Ralph Lauren store in Greenwich.

Before giving him a five-year suspended sentence and three years probation, Fowler’s mother pleaded with White to get him some mental health counseling.

Store employees told police that three black females and a black male came into the store and took over a dozen items of clothing and accessories.

Stamford officials set tax rate on 2.79 percent hike

STAMFORD — Uncertainty in the state budget was the focus of talks among Board of Finance members Tuesday, as officials weighed whether to set aside extra funds anticipating a sizable reduction in state aid while setting the tax rate.

The tax rate for the 2017-18 fiscal year reflects a $555 million operating budget and an extra $500,000 in contingency that officials said was to help offset anticipated cuts from the state, bringing the total reserve allocation to $4.3 million.

Brother avoids jail in Stamford after paying restitution to brothers

STAMFORD-A Bronxville, New York, man avoided jail Tuesday when he was accepted into a court diversionary program after paying back $530,00 that he took from his father’s estate and cheated two brothers.

Richard Everett, 61, was arrested by Stamford police in Feb. 2016 and charged with first-degree larceny for taking over a half-million dollars out of the estate of his father T.E.

 

Trucks and ponies at Stamford Family Day

STAMFORD — This city’s 17th Annual Family Day — featuring food, music and information on programs offered by the city and community groups — is this Saturday at the Yerwood Center.

Stamford Emergency Medical Services and the Stamford Fire Department will offer hands-on demonstrations of their equipment. There will also be pony rides, a petting zoo and face painting.

The event is at 90 Fairfield Ave. from 10 to 4.

 

Stamford man robbed by new bar friends over weekend

After meeting the men, he decided to leave with the group and began walking toward the train station with them.

Broems said police are canvassing the area looking for cameras in the area in hopes of identifying the two robbers.

 

Bar fight with bottle leads to Stamford arrest

Sgt. Chris Broems said police were called to Brother Jimmy’s BBQ restaurant on Bedford Street at about 1:30 a.m. for a fight in the back of the establishment.

Hargrove, of Bedford Street, was charged with second-degree assault, creating a public disturbance and was held in lieu of a $5,000 court appearance bond.
