Bouncer charged with assaulting bar patron in Stamford

Police on Thursday charged Michael Booker, 33, of Pequot Drive, with second-degree assault and was released after posting a $5,000 court appearance bond.

According to a report written by officer Steven Orgera, while it was true the man sucker punched Booker, officers also saw Booker swing the bottle at the man two times as the other man was backing away and no longer a threat to Booker.

According to the police report the Hispanic man appeared to loose consciousness while he laid on the ground and Booker continued to punch him.

 

Broken windshield leads to cocaine bust in Stamford

While on routine patrol, officers Daniel DeRocco and William Garay spotted a car at about 11 a.m. with dark tinted windows and a cracked windshield near the corner of Elm Street and Myrtle Avenue, Sargent Robert Shawinsky said.

A search of the car turned up 10 bags of cocaine and some marijuana, along with a digital scale and packaging supplies for street sales, Shawinsky said.

 

Fan cause of Stamford house fire

Deputy Fire Marshal James Tarzia said a resident reported seeing a fan on fire in a second-floor bedroom after a smoke detector went off Wednesday afternoon.

When the fan crashed on the floor, he said the blade could have jammed and caused the motor to short out and ignite the fire.

Spaulding said power strips are safe for computers, routers and cellphone chargers, but appliances like air conditioners or fans should be plugged directly into wall sockets.

 

Stamford man apprehended is a fugitive from justice

Capt. Richard Conklin said the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad along with uniformed officers conducted the raid at 6 a.m. The man police were looking for, Justin Velez, 25, answered the door and was taken into custody without incident.

Conklin said that the Brooklyn Warrant Squad contacted Stamford police and said they had a felony arrest warrant for Velez on drug charges.

 

House fire in The Cove Wednesday afternoon.

At about 2:15 p.m., firefighters were called to 46 Seaside Avenue, at the corner of Webb Avenue for a fire in a two and one-half story home.

Police had closed streets in the area to help firefighters with their suppression efforts.

 

Northeast Corridor rail plan seeks increased capacity, reliability

A new plan for the Northeast Corridor rail system will focus on expanding tracks and increasing the number and efficiency of commuter trains while postponing a controversial plan to realign tracks in Connecticut.

The Federal Railroad Administration on Wednesday announced that upgrading the Northeast Corridor, which carries 820,000 passengers a day on rails between Washington, D.C. and Boston, will concentrate on improving reliability, capacity, connectivity, performance and resiliency of passenger rail service through 2040.

 

Three arrested after leaving gun in cart at Fairway Market

The man claiming to be from Stamford, Omar Allen, 22, was charged with criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, carrying a pistol without a permit and reckless endangerment.

A passing police officer detained them in the market’s parking lot.

 

“Career” burglar arraigned in $180K Darien burglary

Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Steven Weiss called Lloyd a “career criminal” during his arraignment Tuesday on the third-degree burglary and first-degree larceny charges for the Darien incident.

Judge Auden Grogins ordered Lloyd held in lieu of $250,000 bond due to his criminal history and because Norwalk police have a warrant for his arrest for another burglary.

According to the Lloyd’s arrest affidavit and other reports in his court file, he was linked to a Darien burglary on West Avenue that occurred on Nov. 15, 2013.

 

Malloy to become a grandfather

During an appearance in his hometown of Stamford Tuesday, Malloy mentioned that his son, Dannel, and his wife are expected their first child, which would be his first grandchild.

The Cohens, who live in Greenwich, donated $5 million to the project, which was cited as the largest donation made to a city park by a private donor.
