Stamford chimp attack victim interviewed on Today show

STAMFORD — Chimpanzee attack victim Charla Nash was interviewed on the “Today” show Wednesday to discuss the recent setback she faced when her body began to reject a face transplant after doctors tried weaning her off anti-rejection drugs.

Nash, who was mauled in Stamford in 2009 by her employer’s chimp, was reducing the drugs as part of a military study to determine whether patients who receive transplants can safely taper off the medications, which come with serious side effects, including high blood pressure and diabetes.

 

PD: Danbury driver fled crash, hid in closet

DANBURY — A driver trying to hide from police after crashing into a car on Main Street was found inside his bedroom closet just minutes later, authorities said.

Police said Chimbo drove away, but not before the other driver took down his license plate number.

 

Cops: Danbury woman tried to ‘return’ stolen toys

DANBURY — A city woman tried to get reimbursed at a toy store for items she had just picked up from the shelves, police said.

The suspect, Caitlin Saparato, went into Toys “R” Us on Backus Avenue on Monday afternoon, picked up four boxes of Lego and Mega Bloks toys, carried them to the customer service department and asked to return them, according to the report.

 

Man charged in Kent sexual assault

KENT — An 18-year-old man is being held on $100,000 bond after police charged Monday him with sexually assaulting a minor.

Samuel Elder, of Gainesville, Fla., was charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, both felony offenses.

Police said the incident took place Feb.

 

Danbury man charged after random street attack

The victim, who eventually drove away, told police she was driving east on White Street about 1:30 p.m. Thursday when the pair blocked her car and repeatedly punched it.

Officers drove to the area and found one of the suspects, Christopher Troiano, who immediately got into a fighting stance and began yelling profanities, according to the report.

 

Man sentenced for 2013 rape at Danbury youth center

Jalenn Jackson, 21, of William Street, was sentenced to 14 years in jail, suspended after seven and a half years and followed by 10 years in probation, according to the state Judicial Branch.

The pair approached the victim outside a downtown nightclub shortly after closing time that night, lured her to the youth center with the promise of helping her find her friends, and then repeatedly sexually assaulted her, court records show.

 

Ridgefield man charged with home invasion

RIDGEFIELD — A Tackora Trail man accused of burglary two months ago faces additional charges in connection to a 2015 armed home invasion.

The man smashed a side window and stole several credit cards and a cell phone, police said.

 

Drug raid turns up heroin, pot and guns

A man and a woman face drug and weapon charges after New York State Police found 100 bags of heroin, numerous painkillers, concentrated cannabis and several firearms inside their Putnam County home, authorities said.

After a search warrant was issued last week, detectives took the pair into custody and seized about $3,000 to $4,000 worth of drugs, $1,500 in cash, several weapons and a supply of ammunition from their home, according to the report.
