Bea Latenser, of Redmond and Olaf Bolken, of Terrebonne, were married July 27 on a rock pile at the Bolken ranch in Terrebonne. A reception was held at the Terrebonne grange.The bride is the daughter of Lynn Latenser, of Milwaukie. She is a 1963 graduate of John R. Rogers High School in Spokane, Wash.

 

Drunken driving: a lower limit?

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Timothy Brown has put hundreds of drunken drivers behind the wheel.In the research center where he works, the drivers ingest alcohol and get behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Malibu mounted in a metal pod about the size of a two-car garage.

Youth ranch expanding

Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch purchased a 51-acre property and plans to expand its therapeutic horse training services, according to a news release from Compass Commercial Real Estate Services.The ranch owners bought a ranch property on Innes Market Road north of Tumalo, across the road from their current property, for about $1.1 million.

 

Bend, hearing complaints, schedules street reopening

Bend City Hall, responding to complaints from businesses along Galveston Avenue, agreed to reopen a key intersection closed Tuesday for a street improvement project.The intersection at Galveston Avenue and Riverside Boulevard will reopen Sept 17, according to City Manager Eric King.The Tumalo Avenue portion of the project will remain closed, as well as the portion of Riverside Boulevard south of the Galveston intersection, the city announced.

 

Crash killed Madras couple near Metolius

A drunken driver killed a Madras couple Thursday after likely running a stop sign just east of Metolius, according to a Jefferson County sheriff’s sergeant.Diane Elizabeth Hanson, 34, and her husband, Lukas Daniel Hanson, 32, were dead at the scene, the intersection of Southwest Dover Lane and Southwest Bear Drive, following the crash reported at 5:15 p.m., patrol Sgt.

 

Bend OKs some taller buildings

The Bend City Council voted 4-3 Wednesday night to limit the maximum possible height of buildings on the west side of Brooks Street in downtown to 40 feet.Developers can automatically construct buildings up to 35 feet tall, and they must apply for a variance from the city if they want to build something taller.

To hail and back; Late summer storm unloads rain, hail and high winds on Central Oregon

Hail, heavy rain, high winds: The National Weather Service says a late summer storm brought all that to parts of Oregon on Thursday. On the Cascade Lakes Highway, a semi trailer blasted through fresh hail — lots of it, though the bits of ice weren't as big as the “golf ball-sized" chunks reported in Malheur County to the southeast.
