Area median home prices fall

Median home prices in Bend and Redmond dropped in August, according to a report issued Tuesday by Bratton Appraisal Group.Bend’s median single-family-home price dipped to $265,000 last month, down from $280,000 in July. The median hit a five-year high of $281,000 in June, Bratton data show.

 

Trucking company wins award

Redmond-based Charlie Every Trucking received a national safety award at the Oregon Trucking Convention, according to a news release.The Platinum Fleet Safety Award was presented by Great West Casualty Co., which specializes in truck insurance.Trucking companies compete for the awards, which are based on the number of preventable accidents in a year, in categories based on their annual miles recorded.

Jokinen arraigned on murder charge

Joshua Leo Jokinen, charged with killing a 78-year-old woman outside of Sisters, was arraigned Tuesday on murder charges after an indictment by a Deschutes County grand jury.Jacques DeKalb, Jokinen’s attorney, filed a motion to preserve evidence, asking that tissue samples and any other information from the autopsy be preserved.

 

Bend Police conclude final pedestrian watch

Bend Police conducted its final pedestrian operation of the year Tuesday, netting 30 drivers for various citations.Officers waited at a crosswalk outside of Amity Creek Magnet School at 437 N. W. Wall St., in a school zone.According to a media release from Bend Police spokesman Lt. Chris Carney, police cited eight drivers for failing to yield to pedestrians and eight for cellphone use, as well as five for improper seat belt use and nine for other infractions.
