Albany police investigate burglary at New Scotland wine store

City police are asking for the public's help in locating a suspect who stole items from a New Scotland Avenue wine store.Albany Police said Monday that officers responded to The Wine Shop, located at 265 New Scotland Ave., at noon Saturday for a burglary.

 

Feds agree to view state Hudson River PCB tests

AlbanyFederal environmental officials will review Hudson River PCB tests taken by the state last year as part of eventually ruling on whether the $1.7 billion, seven-year PCB dredging project was a success.Concerned that too many PCBs were being left behind by the project, which dredged about 40 miles of river bottom from Fort Edward to Troy, the state has been pushing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to require further dredging.

A city man is facing a felony charge after he attempted to rob a restaurant on Ontario Street in Albany.Albany Police said Andrew Johnson, 43, was charged with felony attempted robbery after he was identified as the person who demanded money at Trio's restaurant, located at 293 Ontario St., at about 10:20 p.m. Saturday.

A 62-year-old woman avoided harm after a man threatened to hit her with a rock, dragged her to the ground and stole her purse, city police said Monday.Albany Police responded to the area of Grand and Hamilton streets in Albany shortly after 5 p.m. Friday for a reported robbery.

The most iconic player in the Adirondack Red Wings' 20-year history, Merkosky was a part of the American Hockey League's 13th Hall of Fame class Monday at Turning Stone Resort.
Merkosky, after first playing in Glens Falls in 1985, lives in the area and remains employed by the parent Detroit Red Wings, who signed him as a depth player.
Among those on hand for the induction ceremony, held in conjunction with the AHL All-Star Classic at nearby Utica, were Detroit general manager Ken Holland, hockey Hall of Famer Mark Howe and former Adiro

 

Smoking ban one of many rules to be reviewed by Colonie Parks and Rec Committee

Sheriff: Couple forges real estate transaction, move into property

QUEENSBURY - A couple allegedly forged a receipt for a property transaction on Route 149 and then tried to ban the owner from the property, Warren County Sheriff's Office said.On Sunday, deputies responded to a complaint from Dylan Johnson, 23, who said that the previous owner of his property was trespassing on it. He showed the deputy a receipt for the property that he allegedly claim to have purchased for $180,000 with his 17-year-old girlfriend Carrie-Lynn Wheeler, deputies said.

 

Film shot at upstate locales wins prize at Sundance

"We the Animals," an independent film shot at upstate locations including Amsterdam and Little Falls, won a 2018 "Sundance Innovator Award" in the Next Category at the Park City, Utah, festival.The prize, revealed at the festival's closing ceremony on Saturday, was announced by the award's sole judge: author, actor, TV personality and drag queen RuPaul.
