Changing the type of DVDs, videos and TV shows that preschoolers watch during the day may help them sleep better at night. A program that encouraged parents of kids ages 3 to 5 to replace age-inappropriate media content with more suitable programming found "long-lasting, significant reductions in sleep problems," says Michelle Garrison of Seattle Children's Research Institute, lead author of the study in Monday's Pediatrics.

NBC is set to "break even" on its Olympics coverage, rather than lose money as previously expected, the head of NBCUniversal said Wednesday. The company had expected at one point to take a $200 million loss on the London Olympics. NBC paid $1.2 billion for the rights to show the games on TV and online in the U.S. It has said that it sold more than $1 billion in ads, breaking the record of $850 million set during the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

 

RATINGS RAT RACE: Olympics Slip Slightly On Day 3, ‘Bachelor Pad’ & ‘Glass House’ Hit Lows

NBC won the night among adults 18-49 and in total viewers with 31.42 million watching. Meanwhile, ABC had a two-hour new Bachelor Pad (1.1/3), followed by a new The Glass House (0.6/2) at 10 PM. Bachelor Pad was down 27% from last week for the reality show’s lowest rating ever. The Glass House was down 25% from last week’s show, also hitting its lowest rating to date. On CBS, it was an evening of repeats with How I Met Your Mother (0.9/3), 2 Broke Girls (1.0/3), Two And A Half Men (1.1/3), Mike & Molly (1.1/3) and Hawaii Five-O (0.9/2). Fox had two repeats of Hell’s Kitchen at 8 PM (1.1/3) and 9 PM (1.2/3)

 

Discovery CEO: OWN on Track to Reach Profitability in Back Half of 2013

OWN, the cable network joint venture of Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Communications, "remains on track" to reach profitability in the back-half of 2013, Discovery CEO David Zaslav said Tuesday. Previously, the company had promised that the network would reach cash flow break-even some time during the second half of next year and then post profits.
