Mitt Romney may have some help in Iowa: Ron Paul. Poll: Cain's fall fuels Gingrich's double-digit lead

Newt Gingrich Gallup Poll

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich has taken a double-digit lead over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination in a new nationwide Gallup Poll. Gingrich's 37% standing is higher support than any Republican candidate has scored to date in Gallup surveys this year that have been led, at various times, by five other contenders. Senh: What a turn of events within the last month for Newt Gingrich. Herman Cain's loss became his gain. Just when I thought he was out of the picture early on when he had staffing issues. Romney’s 2008 strategy, built on the assumption that someone not nationally known could take the nomination only by winning early and often, was based on some sound assumptions. What he didn’t anticipate was how the campaign would unfold against him.
