Officials are investigating a badly decomposed body discovered by a pre-demolition crew at a Wilder Road home earlier Friday.
Crime scene technicians and sheriff’s office investigators were called to the scene after the crews discovered the body at the 1539 Wilder Road home about 9 a.m.

Aiken officer named in suit resigns

An Aiken Department of Public Safety officer named in a federal lawsuit alleging civil rights violations during a 2014 traffic stop has resigned, Chief Charles Barranco confirmed.
Master Cpl. John C. Medlin did not reference the lawsuit in his resignation letter, which was submitted on Wednesday, only stating it had been a pleasure to work at the agency for the past 20 years.

Kissingbower theft suspect arrested

One of two men who robbed a Kissingbower Road store in June has been arrested.
Jahmel Malik Palmer, 20, was booked into the Richmond County jail Thursday on a charge of armed robbery.
According to an incident report, two men entered Family Dollar, 1801 Kissingbower Road, the evening of June 27 and demanded the manager open the safe. The men also threatened to kill three employees. They left with more than $1,000 in cash and several cartons of Newport cigarettes.

Two mothers were charged after leaving their young children alone at a motel while they went to X-Mart to flirt.
Pamela Evette Freeman, 34, and Ramonica Prisaillia Hampton, 35, were booked into the Richmond County jail early Friday on three counts of deprivation of a minor.

Police are seeking a man who they say fired multiple shots at his girlfriend’s vehicle on Wednesday.
Shon Dwayne Robinson, 25, is being sought on a charge of aggravated assault. He was last seen driving a black, four-door vehicle, possibly a Mitsubishi Galant, with tinted windows.

Ga. DOT announces new traffic app

Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a partnership with Waze, a popular navigational app that warns drivers of traffic delays, police and wrecks.
Waze works by allowing users to report road disturbances that would slow someone’s drive. Drivers in that area will be alerted so they can adjust their route before being stuck in a jam.

Augusta mayor to hold fishing event for children

 
Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis, his father and his son, Benjamin Davis, are holding a fishing rodeo Friday for summer camp students at the Mayor’s Fishing Hole, 1836 Lock and Dam Road.
“I love fishing with my papa and my dad, and not many kids know how much fun it is to fish,” Benjamin Davis said. “Since ‘the mayor’ has a fishing hole, we should use it to teach kids how to fish and show them how to enjoy it.”

 

Riverwalk shooter hunt continues

Three weeks after a shooting that sent fireworks observers scurrying on Riverwalk Augusta, police said they are no closer to identifying the second unknown shooter.
The other suspected shooter, 30-year-old Clinton Lamont Coleman, remains in the Richmond County jail where he was booked following his release from the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to the face and leg. The injuries were sustained during the exchange of gunfire near Unisys on the Riverwalk around 10 p.m. immediately after the fireworks ended.
