The Amarillo Police Department and Amarillo Emergency Communications Center identified and arrested a suspect Thursday morning in connection to the bomb threats made Wednesday morning to a pair of Head Start buildings in Amarillo.
Alejandro Isidro Montes, 22, was arrested at 10:30 a.m. Thursday following an investigation that linked the calls back to his residence in the 1500 block of S. Cleveland Street.
Employees of the AECC came up with the information to identify Montes as the threat.

Two Amarillo early education campuses were evacuated Wednesday morning as police investigated what appeared to be an empty threat.
Shortly after 8 a.m., a call came in to the Amarillo Emergency Communications Center making a threat to blow up a local Head Start early childhood education center, according to an Amarillo Police Department news release.
“The threat was vague and did not mention a specific building,” according to the release.

“Amarillo” was pronounced correctly, and with pride, Wednesday among the attendees of Los Barrios de Amarillo’s second Hispanic Heritage luncheon, where many of the city’s Hispanic community leaders gathered to celebrate their achievements.
“We’re a whole sea of brownness,” said J.E. Sauseda, an Amarillo activist and attorney.

An Amarillo man who police said injured two Amarillo Police Department officers at a children’s birthday party in June has been indicted on a pair of felonies, according to Potter County Clerk’s Office documents.
Raul Duran Ramirez, 36, has been indicted on charges of evading arrest and taking a weapon from an officer, both of which are third-degree felonies.
Ramirez was initially arrested June 4 when he was locked out of a party in the 4500 block of Northwest 24th Avenue for being drunk and belligerent, police said at the time.

A Shamrock woman died Wednesday morning after a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash on Loop 335 in Potter County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
About 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, Minnie Menefield, 51, of Shamrock was walking in the dark in the southbound lane of Loop 335 when she was struck by a Dodge pickup driven by John Wilson, 62, of Hereford, just past the Interstate 40 Business Loop intersection, DPS said.
Wilson did not see Menefield, investigators said, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Potter County Justice of the Peace.

Instructions from City of Amarillo employees to not use a tack coat between layers of paving on Hillside Road resulted in the bonding company responsible for ensuring quality work on the project to be released from its obligations by a judge in February 2015.
Advanced Pavement Maintenance originally hired Houston-based bonding company SureTec to ensure the city would be paid if APM was unable to complete its contract. But after the city sued APM in November 2013, Judge Ana Estevez in the 251st District Court of Potter County released SureTec of its responsibility.

Claiming they were wrongfully passed over for promotion, two members of the Amarillo Fire Department have sued the city.
Nathan Sloan Nurek and Michael Brandon Stennett, both employed by AFD, filed a lawsuit Sept. 22 in Potter County District Court against the City of Amarillo and Interim City Manager Terry Childers. Childers is being sued in an official capacity only, the suit claims.
