Near-record temps not out of Amarillo norm

While the weekend weather forecast is calling for near- or above-record temperatures for Amarillo and the surrounding areas, according to the National Weather Service, an October heat wave isn’t all that uncommon.
Saturday’s forecast from NWS calls for a high of around 91 degrees, Sunday for 94, and Monday for 91.
“We’re getting warmer air gusts and have a ridge building over us,” one NWS forecaster said Friday.
“That’s keeping us clear of a lot of cloud cover and allows things to heat up more easily.”
