Cookout for a cause

Some in Bend took advantage of Labor Day to put the focus on labor issues. Bend volunteers including Steve Williamsen and Bob Bradetich grilled hamburger patties and hot dogs at the Solidarity Day Picnic at Bend's Pioneer Park on Monday afternoon.

Pilot walks away from crash uninjured

A pilot from Tigard made an emergency crash landing near the Sisters Eagle Airport on Sunday evening.A resident who lives near the airport called 911 to report the crash soon after 6 p. m. Sunday, said Lt. Bryan Husband from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

 

La Pine resident injured in house fire

An early morning fire in La Pine critically injured a man and destroyed his house Sunday, according to the La Pine Rural Fire Protection District.Several neighbors of the home on Evans Lane called 911 just before 3 a. m.

Midwest company moves to Bend

Sanitation Strategies LLC, which providessanitation systems and consulting to medical, science and food processing companies, plans to relocate its corporate headquarters from Michigan to downtown Bend, Compass Commercial Real Estate Services announced Friday.Sanitation Strategies, which has a sales and service team in 17 states, has leased 4,679 square feet of office space in the Franklin Crossing building at Northwest Bond Street and Northwest Franklin Avenue, making the building 86 percent leased, according to the news release from Compass.

 

2 killed in crash near Chemult

Two people were killed Friday morning in a crash on U. S. Highway 97 north of Chemult, according to Oregon State Police.The two-vehicle crash was reported shortly after 11 a. m. According to police, a 44-year-old man from Gilchrist was driving a 1989 Jeep pickup southbound on the highway and tried to pass a commercial vehicle in a no-passing zone.

Names released in Bend crash

The names of two Bend men involved in a car vs. motorcycle crash Thursday evening were released Friday by Bend Police.At 5:46 p. m. Thursday, a Harley-Davidson ridden by Daniel James Dillard, 63, collided with a Ford Mustang driven by Douglas Franklin McDonald, 23, near the intersection of Northeast Bear Creek Road and Quail Run Place.
