Tinley Park OKs another $7.3 million in contracts for downtown Harmony Square plaza

Tinley Park officials voted this week to approve contracts worth $7.3 million for work at a Harmony Square, an outdoor music and performance venue in the village’s downtown that will also include retail space, apartments and town houses. The new contracts cover decorative woodwork, painting, flooring and electrical work for the project. Bordered by Oak Park Avenue on the west, North Street on the south and 173rd Street on the north, Harmony Square will have a synthetic turf lawn, water feature, synthetic ice rink, fire pits and a 30-by-50 feet performance stage, according to the village. A building underway at the northeast corner of Oak Park Avenue and 173rd will include the stage, backstage area for performers and skate rental in the winter, according to the village. Steel for buildings has gone up, and the construction schedule shows some elements being worked on into the early part of winter. According to the timetable, the plaza is expected to be substantially complete, with the exception of some landscaping, by May 2. Teehan’s, an Irish tavern in downtown Tinley Park, at the northeast corner of Oak Park Avenue and North Street, north of the Oak Park Avenue Metra station, was demolished in March.
