Federal grants from POWER plan announced for WV

By Andrew Brown HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia organizations will get nearly $10 million under the first round of grants from President Barack Obama's POWER initiative, meant to revitalize coalfield communities throughout the country. State and federal officials announced the grants Wednesday in Huntington. The largest grants included $2.5 million for the Bluewell Public Service District in Bluefield, $2.2 million for the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education in Charleston, and $2.28 million for the Upshur County Economic Development Authority. The Coalfield Development Corporation in Huntington got $1.87 million, the Randolph County Economic Development Authority got $1.82 million and the Mingo County Economic Development Authority got $1.64 million, among other grants. The Hatfield McCoy Regional Recreation Authority in southwestern West Virginia got $1.37 million, and the Natural Capital Investment Fund in Shepherdstown got $1.25 million. Gov.
