Letter: Spills lead to questions

Saturday’s headline regarding the fine of $60,000 for two sewage spills into the Columbia River in 2017 (“City fined $60K for 2 sewage spills,” Jan. 5) raises several questions:
Why did Clark Public Utilities make the changes to the cross arms described in the article ?
Why does a person who is surprised that birds on wires might be startled have the responsibility for the management of public safety?

 

Letter: Adopt national background checks

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, in the recent election campaign touted her record for working across the aisle with (minority) Democratic colleagues. Now that the (majority) Democratic caucus has introduced H.R. 8 to institute federal universal background checks similar to the checks all Washington state residents (including all her constituents) already enjoy, does she plan to work across the aisle to extend this protection to all U.S. residents?

 

Letter: Transportation solutions needed

My husband and I attended the town hall with Rep. Brandon Vick, Sen. Ann Rivers, and Rep.-elect Larry Hoff at Camas City Hall on Jan. 5. Discussion on the I-5 bridge replacement was puzzling.

Monica C. Fowler was hired by C-Tran as its new chief of staff. Fowler, who started on Jan. 7, will serve as the transit agency’s treasurer, which includes duties such as oversight of budget, finance, accounting, grants and procurement, and federal and state regulatory management. She also will serve as adviser to the chief executive officer and the board of directors. Fowler hails from Forth Worth, Texas, where she was the president and chief financial officer of Trinity Metro.

Haven’t we seen this movie before?
Certainly, there is a sense of deja vu all over again as one watches the right wing hyperventilate over a certain freshman congresswoman from New York. The attacks on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have been frequent and furious, but also petty, silly and (in the mental health sense) hysterical.
Just days ago, The Daily Caller tweeted “the photo some people are calling a nude selfie of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.”
But it turns out “some people” are morons.
