Duck hunter goes missing on Columbia River

ASTORIA, Ore. — The search for a 19-year-old duck hunter who disappeared Saturday on the Columbia River has been suspended.
KOIN-TV reports Monday that Riley Salisbury was hunting with his father and younger brother when he took a small watercraft to hunt alone a few miles away from them.
Around noon, the Portland-area teen fell out of cell phone contact and his father called 911.

 

Trump denies ever working for Russia, blasts investigators

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Monday denied he ever worked for Russia against U.S. interests, addressing an extraordinary question that has haunted his presidency and shows no sign of going away.
Speaking from the South Lawn, Trump issued a flat denial: “I never worked for Russia.” He blasted former FBI and Justice Department officials and repeated his claim that the investigation into his ties to Moscow is a hoax.

 

China sentences Canadian to death, raises diplomatic tension

BEIJING — A Chinese court sentenced a Canadian man to death on Monday in a drug smuggling case as tensions heightened between the two countries over Canada’s arrest last month of a top Chinese technology executive.
In a sudden retrial, a Chinese court in northeastern Liaoning province announced that it had given Robert Lloyd Schellenberg the death penalty, reversing an earlier 2016 ruling that sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

OLYMPIA — The 105-day legislative session in Washington state begins Monday, and lawmakers return to Olympia this year with a variety of costly issues on their plate — including finding money to improve the state’s troubled mental health system.

 

Letter: Open the government

People who work without pay are either volunteers or slaves. I doubt that many government employees working without being paid during the shutdown consider themselves volunteers. United States citizens should not be enslaved by their government for any reason. Government employees not being paid should walk off the job en masse (usually called a strike).
