Jubitz Truck Stop named 2nd best rest stop in U.S.

PORTLAND — Jubitz Travel Center and Truck Stop, the truck stop in North Portland off of Interstate 5 just before you cross the bridge to Washington, is finally getting its due.
The truck stop, once called “Disneyland for Truckers” by Willamette Week, is so much more than your average truck stop. It has a theater, it has a motel, it has a deli, a grill, a barber, a laundromat, shoe repairs, jacuzzi tubs and a dog wash station.

 

Senator under investigation resigns

OLYMPIA — A state senator who was under investigation following allegations of improper conduct has resigned days ahead of the start of the legislative session.
Sen. Kevin Ranker, a Democrat from Orcas Island, sent a letter to Gov. Jay Inslee’s office late Friday saying that he was resigning “with a heavy heart.” He wrote that his resignation was effective immediately. The 105-day legislative session begins today.

 

Family of six displaced by Orchards house fire

A fire ripped through a home in Orchards early Sunday morning, severely damaging the building and displacing the family of six living there.
Firefighters from the Vancouver Fire Department and Clark County Fire District 3 were called to the house, 15505 N.E. 83rd St., around 1:50 a.m.
Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Bryan Fredrickson said responding firefighters arrived to find fire coming from the rear of the house on the second floor and an outbuilding engulfed in flames.

 

Girl struck by minivan in Salmon Creek recovering at home

The girl struck by a minivan Wednesday afternoon in Salmon Creek is doing well and recovering at home, her parents say.
Vancouver’s Robert E. Taylor said his daughter, who was hospitalized after a minivan hit her when she went into the roadway at the intersection of Northwest Third Avenue and Northwest 114th Street, was back home Friday.
