CHICAGO — It’s been nearly two weeks since the Cleveland Indians lost a game.
Trevor Bauer’s winning streak dates all the way to July.
Bauer won his eighth decision in a row, and the Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 5-3 on Monday for their 12th straight victory.
Bauer (15-8) gave up two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over 6 1/3 innings. A day after tying the major league record with five extra-base hits, including two homers, Jose Ramirez homered again for the Indians, his 23rd of the year .

CINCINNATI — Billy Hamilton stepped into the batter’s box and was determined to get home, one way or another. Quickly, the speedster wound up scoring the winning run.
Hamilton hit the first walkoff homer of his career, connecting for a solo shot with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning that sent the Cincinnati Reds over the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 Monday.
“I was going to hit a home run if it landed in play any way,” Hamilton said. “Hitting off the wall and beating it home was the goal there.”

ADA — The Ohio Northern Symphony is expanding its scope to reach members of the regional community and provide opportunities for talented musicians to play in an orchestra.
There are openings for all string instruments, oboe, horn and trombone performers. The symphony rehearses Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 7:50 p.m. and performs five concerts each year in Ada.

OTTAWA — A Master Gardener training program will be offered by the Putnam County Extension office this year.
Local experts and specialists from Ohio State University will teach sessions on topics including botany, vegetable gardening, tree selection and ID, fruit tree care and many others.
Classes will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an hour break. They begin Tuesday, Oct. 3 run consecutively until Nov. 23. Classes will be held at the Putnam County Extension office, 1206 E. Second St., Ottawa.

LIMA — A local family is raising money for a longtime Lima resident who needs $5,000 for a lung transplant.
Thomas Cobb is a current candidate for a lung transplant, but he is unable to undergo the operation until he can raise enough money for medications and a six- to eight-week stay at Wexner Medical Center, in Columbus.

KENTON — A Hardin County grand jury late last month returned a 15-count indictment against a Harrod man, alleging he secured the service of another person to commit murder last month.

WAPAKONETA — Auglaize County Commissioner Doug Spencer joined 79 other Ohio county commissioners in Washington, D.C., last week for a special conference with government officials.
Officials from more than a dozen different agencies, including Department of Agriculture, Health and Human Resources, Homeland Security, Veteran Affairs and NASA, gave presentations Tuesday on the functions they serve in the government and what they can do for Ohio. They let the county commissioners know they have an open-door policy, Spencer said.

CINCINNATI — An Obama administration holdover under heat in Washington and a tabloid TV host made their presence known at Ohio Labor Day events Monday amid speculation both could join the 2018 governor’s race.
In Cleveland, Jerry Springer stepped out for a Labor Day parade as he mulls a run for governor.
The 73-year-old tabloid TV host appeared at a parade and rally supporting union rights and a $15 minimum wage.
The Democrat was joined by health care workers, librarians, security guards and other members of the Service Employees International Union.

STOW (AP) — A man who was fatally shot after being transported by a police officer to a homeless shelter had refused to get out of the officer’s cruiser when they got there, police records show.
The shooting happened about six minutes after a Stow police officer asked that Akron police be called following his arrival at Haven of Rest shelter in Akron late Sunday, according to a radio log released by the Stow Police Department on Monday.
“We’re at the back door & he won’t get out,” the officer said at about 11:20 p.m.
