Ponce Inlet postpones talk of settlement over $30M judgment

PONCE INLET - Town officials discussed a $30 million judgment against the town, but decided to postpone any talk of a possible settlement in the developer's property rights lawsuit.At a meeting Thursday night, Town Council members decided to wait until after the upcoming election to consider any further discussion of the suit by Simone and Lyder Johnson, owners of Pacetta LLC.

A 107-year-old resident of Bishop's Glen Retirement Community in Daytona Beach, who remembered the sinking of the Titanic and the thrill of seeing "talkie" motion pictures for the first time, has died.Sadie Gorman died Wednesday, according to Linda Dixon, marketing director for Bishop's Glen.Gorman was born in North Adams, Massachusetts, on April 27, 1908, according to a story about her in a Bishop's Glen newsletter.Gloria Max, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Volusia & Flagler Counties, said she knew Gorman for about 15 years and Gorman treated everyone with such c

Keith Greene and Rod Perry off to good starts at Florida Open

Deltona's Keith Greene and Port Orange's Rod Perry got off to good starts Friday at the 69th Florida Open in Jacksonville. Greene shot 5-under 67 and Perry 68 at Timuquana Country Club.Amateur John Jonas, of Jacksonville, who plays college golf at the College of Charleston, shot 9-under 63 for a three-shot lead through 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament.Among other local golfers in the 144-man field, Kevin Boone (Port Orange) shot 72, Tom Bryant (Ormond Beach) 73, Bo Smith (Port Orange) 74 and Bill Anderson (Deltona) 75.

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — The grand pursuit of Jordan Spieth, redemption for Dustin Johnson, the mystery that has become Tiger Woods. It all came to a momentary halt Friday in the gloaming of St. Andrews when Tom Watson said goodbye to the British Open.

World War II vet with no known relatives finds family at Halifax Health

A 93-year-old hospital patient, Clayton Christansen doesn't speak, but his service to his country during World War II spoke volumes Friday when Halifax Health honored him with a veterans' recognition ceremony.A Navy veteran, Christansen served on transport ships that took troops from England to Europe, according to his friend and former boss, Stephen Murand of Arizona.

Curtis Mitchell would like to be preparing to run in August’s IAAF World Championships in Beijing, but after failing to qualify the former Atlantic High star is looking at the bright side of things.
