Palm Coast woman, 71, charged with battering husband

BUNNELL — A 71-year-old Palm Coast woman suffering from mental illnesses was arrested Thursday night following allegations she attacked and injured her husband, deputies said.Sin-Cha Certain was charged with domestic battery and booked at the Flagler County Detention Facility. She was released from jail following her first court appearance.The Flagler County Sheriff's Office responded shortly after 10:40 p.m.

 

23 people arrested in East Volusia drug sting

A major street level anti-drug operation in east Volusia County led to the arrest of 23 people this week.The drug suppression operation was conducted Thursday by law enforcement officers from the Sheriff's Office, Daytona Beach, Holly Hill and Ormond Beach police departments in high crime areas in northeast Volusia, said sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson.Narcotics agents assisted by sheriff's helicopters made arrests after transactions were observed by investigators, Davidson said.The arrests included a motorist who sped off from a traffic stop with a 5-year-old child.

Flagler, Volusia jobless rates fall in June

The unemployment rates in Flagler and Volusia counties fell in June as the ranks of jobless workers continue to shrink.Employers in the combined two-county area increased their payrolls by 5,700 workers to 185,400 last month, excluding agricultural-related jobs. That's a 3.2 percent increase from June 2014, according to preliminary figures released Friday by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.In Flagler County, unemployment declined to 6.3 percent last month, down from 7.6 percent in June of last year.

 

Ormond Strong bridges gap between residents, troops

For more than 110 consecutive days, she has trudged the round-trip over the river to raise awareness for 200 troops from the Ormond Beach area serving in Afghanistan.Kruck’s husband is among them.

 

Consolidated-Tomoka buys Jacksonville office building

DAYTONA BEACH - Consolidated-Tomoka Land Co. has purchased a five-story office building along the St. Johns River in Jacksonville.The Daytona Beach-based company paid $25.1 million using available cash for the multi-tenant building at 245 Riverside Ave. in Jacksonville, according to a news release. The building was constructed in 2003 and is 99 percent leased.

Former NSB wrestling coach Mike Strouse to be honored

Former New Smyrna Beach wrestling coach Mike Strouse is slated to be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's Florida Chapter on July 25.The ceremony will be held at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort in Lake Buena Vista at 8 p.m.Strouse, who teaches at Edgewater Elementary, will be part of a class of seven inducted. Joining him will be Andrew Gugliemini, Robert Matyskiel, Steven Pricer, Don Schroeder and Gary and Jane Townsend.
