One of the busiest spots in Flagler County on July 10 was the grand opening party at Finnegan's Black Cloud Saloon as several hundred people showed up to welcome Tim Finnegan and his wife, Joan, back into the local restaurant business.Ten years ago, Finnegan owned Finnegan's Beachside Pub in Flagler Beach and was set to open another restaurant when a series of family issues forced a career change."At that point, I got totally burnt out and needed a break," Finnegan said.After trying his hand at real estate investment, Finnegan found work as a restaurant consultant."I invested in real estate right before the bubble burst and I lost my shirt," he said.A conversation with John Seibel, owner of the adjacent Thunder Gulch Campground and former operator of the Black Cloud Saloon, was enough to convince Finnegan to get back into the restaurant business.At the grand-opening party, a standing-room-only crowd filled the restaurant, giving new meaning to "belly up to the bar" as friends from all over the area met up to celebrate the night, which started with an invitation-only ribbon cutting."The turnout is unbelievable," said Joan Finnegan.
