Bethel police hiring for open officer positions

BETHEL—The police department is accepting applications for police officer jobs.

In a post this week, police said there are openings for both entry-level and certified police officer positions. Applicants should apply by 4 p.m. on Nov. 22 to be considered.

Candidates can apply online.

A CPCA entry-lvel test and CHIP card are required for the entry-level position.

Redding to hold backyard composting workshop

REDDING—The Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority will host a composting workshop at Town Hall next Wednesday, Nov. 1.

The backyard composting workshop, to begin at 7 p.m., will teach residents which composting bin to use, where to put it and what to put in the bin. It will also explain harvesting compost and management of backyard compost bins.

Discounted SoilSaver composters, which usually sell for $100, will be available for $40.

Audience space is limited so residents are encouraged to sign up early on the HRRA website or by calling (203) 775-4539.

 

Meeting to discuss proposed fare and route changes to HART

HARTtransit is proposing a fare increase and potential changes to bus routes.

Proposed Changes include raising the base fare for a fixed route from $1.50 to $1.75 and increasing other fare classes proportionately, increasing the fare for ADA Paratransit from $2.50 to $3 and increasing the fare for same day SweetHART dial-a-ride trips from $3 to $4.

Potential changes to the 7Link and 3 Mill Plain routes are also being considered.

The changes will be considered by the HARTransit Board of Directors in December and, if approved, enacted in January.

Public meetings will be held at 4 p.m.

 

Danbury police seek missing woman

DANBURY - Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a woman who disappeared last week.

Police said Laelcira DeLima, 53, was last seen around 5 p.m. Oct. 20, when she was leaving her residence. She never came back and was reported missing by her family.

DeLima was last seen wearing a black V-neck shirt and blue jeans, according to police, and could be driving a red 2016 Honda Accord with Connecticut license plates bearing the number AC98150.

Anyone with information about her disappearance or whereabouts is asked to call police at 203-797-4611.

Negligence by Redding police caused death, lawsuit claims

REDDING - The family of Peter Valenti, a man who hung himself last year, claims in a lawsuit filed Wednesday that the negligence of police officers at the scene, including Chief Doug Fuchs, caused Valenti’s death.

Police responded to Valenti’s home on April. 11, 2016 after the man had sent multiple text messages to friends asking for police assistance.

 

Firefighters douse Danbury car fire

DANBURY - Firefighters put out a car fire Wednesday morning at the intersection of South and Triangle streets.

There will be delays in the area until the vehicle is towed.

 

State proposes rates for new commuter railroad

HARTFORD - A commuter railroad from New Haven to Springfield, Massachusetts is set to open next year — the first new rail line in Connecticut in decades.

A proposed rate schedule released this week for the CTrail Hartford line shows a one-way trip from New Haven to Springfield will cost $12.75, and $8 from New Haven to Hartford.

When Hartford Line service begins in 2018, CTrail and Amtrak will offer 17 week day round trips beginning in 2018, with 12 continuing on to Springfield. The proposed rates apply only to the state owned CTrail trains.

 

FBI releases Sandy Hook files

DANBURY - Officials with the FBI have released more than 1,200 pages of documents related to their investigation into the Sandy Hook shooting that took the lives of 20 first-grade students and six educators at the school. The FBI released the information Tuesday morning in three separate files, each containing more than 500 pages of information that was largely redacted of names and addresses of those interviewed by FBI agents shortly after the shooting on Dec. 14, 2012.

 

Southbury teens in stolen car arrested

SOUTHBURY - Police arrested several juveniles on Saturday after locating a stolen car along Woods Way Road.

Police said they received information that a 2017 BMW reported stolen from New Canaan was located in the Woods Way area. Upon approaching the vehicle, police arrested two juveniles who were in the car while two other juvenile ran from the car and fled the area.

Police said they were able to locate on of the juveniles with the assistance of K-9 track and the teenager was taken into custody.

 

Shelter Rock Road in Bethel to be closed this week

BETHEL—A stretch of Shelter Rock Road will be closed to all traffic except local traffic for a week, starting Monday, town officials announced last week.

The section of the road between Walnut Hill Road and Payne Road will be closed each day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Oct. 31, the town said.

Residents and school buses will be allowed on the road during the closures.

The closure will allow workers to install storm drains, according to a town Facebook post. A paving schedule will be announced following the drainage work completion.
