SOUTHBURY — Police have accused a New York man of hitting a Southbury police vehicle with a stolen car and leading officers on a chase.

State police said 34-year-old Eric Feye backed a work utility van into Southbury Officer Anthony Armeno’s car when the officer was investigating an alarm at Parsell’s Auto Service on Main Street South on Friday night.

After smashing through the garage door and hitting the police car, the suspect headed westbound down Main Street South toward Route 172, as debris from the garage door fell off the van, police said.

DANBURY — The winners of the Danbury Collaborative Awards, which were run for the first time this year, have been announced. For the 2017-18 awards, Danbury’s Promise for Children Partnership received the first place award of $20,000, the Dream Homes Community Center received the second-place $10,000 award and Western Connecticut Community Health Needs Assessment Subcommittee for Chronic Disease Prevention received the third place award of $7,500. A review team of Danbury residents, convened by United Way of Western Connecticut, made nominations for the awards to the mayor.

BROOKFIELD - Two Danbury residents were arrested on assault charges after a domestic disturbance on Candlewood Lake Road Wednesday.

According to police, officers arrived at the home at around 10:30 p.m. and charged Jonathan Joyner, 19 of Nichols Street in Danbury, with third-degree assault against a pregnant woman. Alexandra Leeds, also of Danbury, was also arrested and was charged with third-degree assault, police said.

Both were released from custody on promises to appear in Danbury Superior Court for their arraignment hearings Thursday.

Light snow is creating slick road conditions and widespread school delays Thursday morning.

Before sunrise, a dusting to a half-inch has fallen across southwestern Connecticut. The National Weather Service says snow is expected to end by 10 a.m.

While major roads like I-95, I-84 and the Merritt and Wilbur Cross parkways are clear, the shoulders and exit/entrance ramps are snow covered.

Secondary roads are especially slippery with local police reporting dozens of accidents.

By 6 a.m., the state Department of Transportation reported no accidents on major roads, which are mainly wet.

A Danbury law firm has joined a growing national effort punish the drug industry for its role in the opioid epidemic. Ventura Law is asking town and cities across Fairfield County to join a potential suit against the pharmaceutical companies to recoup the costs of combatting the crisis. “We feel we have a moral obligation to rectify the wrongs and take a stand against the pharmaceutical companies for creating the problem in this way,” said Kelly Fitzpatrick, a partner with Ventura.

After months of disagreement between the Candlewood Lake marine patrol unit and the lake authority, six patrol officers will not be rehired and the unit’s senior staff filed a vote of no confidence in the lake authority’s chairwoman. The Candlewood Lake Authority’s Executive Committee voted this week to follow a recommendation made by the marine patrol and the Public Safety Committee not to rehire the six officers. The committee is chaired by Phyllis Schaer, who is also chairwoman of the authority board.

DANBURY - Police pursued a stolen vehicle and a suspect they believed was armed early Wednesday morning.

According to reports, the driver of a stolen GMC Denali was purportedly armed with a knife and was heading along Lake Avenue around 9 a.m. with police officers following closely behind. The suspect was driving around 30 miles per hour when he entered the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 at Exit 4.

Police then broke off their pursuit and contacted New York authorities about the suspect.

DANBURY - A man, who police say displayed a gun during an argument, was taken into custody after he threw the handgun into the Still River on Saturday.

The incident began just before 1 p.m when police received a phone call that there was a male with a gun in the parking lot of Amigos Deli at 130 West St. threatening to shoot people.

The man with the gun, identified as Vincent Mourning, was found near the West Street Bridge.
