After first saying that just two schools needed repairs following Harvey, Beaumont ISD released documents last week showing that six of the district's buildings were damaged by the August tropical storm and that three schools failed air quality tests. According to the documents, released by the district in response to public information requests, water and wind damaged all three of the district's high schools, as well as Marshall Middle School and the Trahan Center, which houses the transportation office. The pool at the Thomas Center also had storm-related damage.

A week of activities leading up to Saturday's Homecoming game kicked off Monday with a block party on the lawn at the Brooks - Shivers Dining Hall. Our cameras were there, did we see you? Little Cypress-Mauriceville elementary students returned to full-day classes today after starting the year with shortened school days.
Four of the district's six campuses were severely damaged by Harvey. The first of those, Little Cypress Junior High, reopens today for Mauriceville Elementary students.
Little Cypress Elementary preschool through second-graders will continue to have classes at North Orange Baptist Church, and the third-graders will stay at Little Cypress Intermediate but will now attend full-day classes instead of half-days.

Mitch Templeton, a Beaumont attorney and member of the Beaumont ISD board of managers, plans to run against ex-BISD attorney Melody Chappell for the 172nd District Court judge in 2018.
Templeton, a Republican, said Thursday that his experience as a trial lawyer would be an asset to him as a judge.
"There's a general perception of corruption in our county, and it blankets everything from our biggest school district to our courts. We've got to elect candidates that do something to rebut that perception," Templeton said.
