HONOLULU (AP) — A planned voyage from Hawaii to Tahiti aboard a small sailboat didn't start off well for two Honolulu women. One of their cellphones washed overboard and sank into the deep blue water on their first day at sea. From there, things got worse. Much worse. About a month into their trip, bad weather caused their engine to lose power. Their mast was damaged. And then, as they drifted across thousands of miles of open ocean, their water purifier stopped working.

 

Galveston police search for clues in case of unidentified child

Police are sifting through hundreds of tips and leads to discover the name of a little boy whose body was found on a beach in Southeast Texas last week. It's the second time in a decade that residents and law enforcement in Galveston have struggled to identify a lifeless child found on the shores of their beach community. The Galveston Police Department is working with federal and state agencies in a national search for the young Hispanic boy's identity — and to find out why no one has reported him missing.

 

Beaumont ISD to discuss opting out of state requirements

Beaumont ISD's Board of Managers will discuss becoming a District of Innovation at a special meeting Monday, a designation that would allow the district to opt out of certain state requirements.
