Sears, Whirlpool split after 100 years

NEW YORK (AP) — Sears will no longer sell Whirlpool appliances, ending a business relationship that dates back more than 100 years. In a note sent to its stores last week, Sears said that Whirlpool was making demands that would've made it difficult to sell its appliances at a competitive price. Sears has been ravaged by new competition for years, from stores like Home Depot and also from Amazon.com and other online retailers. It's been closing stores as competitors take a bigger slice of the territory it dominated for decades.

 

PA pastor donates 6 caskets for mom, kids killed in Silsbee fire

After learning about the "heart-wrenching" deaths last week of a Silsbee mother and her five young children, Van Jordan said he knew he needed to "give back." The Port Arthur pastor and longtime mortician said he felt compelled to help the family of Ashley Pickering by donating six caskets. Pickering, 31, and her five children, Cristian Mattox, 11; Serenity Mattox, 7; Cavence Mattox, 4; Cash Mattox, 4; and Camden Mattox, 3, were killed in an Oct. 18 fire.

Officers from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration are executing a search warrant at Optimum Medical Weight Control and Family Wellness, Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush said.

 

Beaumont grad, former Astros player follows team with special appreciation

It's been more than two decades since Herbert Eugene "Butch" Troy wore an Astros uniform, but he hasn't missed many games in that time. Troy, 76, played catcher in the 1960s when the organization was known as the Houston Colt .45s. He bounced around to other minor-league teams for a few years before returning to Houston as a scout, running tryout camps during spring training and assessing players' abilities on the road. The 1959 Beaumont High School graduate said he feels a special connection to the Astros - a team that will play Game 1 of the World Series tonight in Los Angeles.

 

Texas Uber driver booked on sex assault charge

An Uber driver accused of sexually assaulting a San Antonio woman who requested a ride told reporters he didn't do anything wrong and, "She was drunk," as deputies brought him into custody on Monday.

 

Sister of Texas girl feared dead to stay in foster care

DALLAS (AP) — The sister of a missing 3-year-old Texas girl will remain in foster care for at least three more weeks.
A Dallas County judge postponed a Monday custody hearing until Nov. 13 for the 4-year-old sister of Sherin Mathews to allow their father, Wesley Mathews, to hire an attorney.
Police said Monday that they believe the body of a young child found about a half-mile from the family's home in the Dallas suburb of Richardson is Sherin's.
