Marengo prepares for Festival of the Sugar Maples

Pure maple syrup, hiking and maple-flavored candies are among the attractions coming to Marengo next month at the McHenry County Conservation District's Festival of the Sugar Maples.

The festival will take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

 

Anniversary party

After having to move locations and having redevelopment plans fall through, Hidden Pearl Coffee is coming back bigger and better for its fifth anniversary. Owners of the coffee shop will hold a ribbon-cutting Tuesday afternoon to celebrate its reopening. 

The shop had a small re-opening in December and plans to have a grand re-opening later this year.

 

Justice Department brings new suits over sanctuary policies

U.S. says Chinese military stole masses of Americans’ data

WASHINGTON – Four members of the Chinese military have been charged with breaking into the computer networks of the Equifax credit reporting agency and stealing the personal information of tens of millions of Americans, the Justice Department said Monday, blaming Beijing for one of the largest hacks in history to target consumer data.

The hackers in the 2017 breach stole the personal information of roughly 145 million Americans, collecting names, addresses, Social Security and driver’s license numbers and other data stored in the company’s databases.

 

Buttigieg, Sanders request recanvass

WASHINGTON – Bernie Sanders' and Pete Buttigieg's presidential campaigns filed requests Monday for a partial recanvass of the results of Iowa's Democratic caucuses.

The Sanders campaign cited "mathematical errors and inconsistencies" in more than two dozen locations that it says would change the results if amended.

Woodstock woman faces child battery charges

A Woodstock woman accused of pulling a child out of a closet by his wrist and then striking him with an open hand faces several felony charges.

Rebecca L. Wise, 34, is accused of intentionally harming a child on Jan. 10, according to a criminal complaint filed with the McHenry County Circuit Clerk's Office. She is charged with aggravated battery to a child younger than 13 years old and domestic battery.

 

Administrator contracts to be voted on at Prairie Grove school board meeting

Four administrator contracts are up for approval at the next Prairie Grove School District 46 meeting.

The contracts will be from 2020 to 2023.

 

McHenry County College Center for Agrarian Learning to host agriculture workshops

The McHenry County College Center for Agrarian Learning will host a series of expert-led agriculture workshops.

According to a news release from the college, these workshops are open to individuals of every skill level and businesses of any size.

“We wanted to make sure we addressed some of the most common challenges farmers and food producers are facing today,” said Sheri Doyel, director of the Center for Agrarian Learning.
