STAMFORD-The boyfriend of a Rippowam Middle School teacher was jailed for stealing the woman’s car and driving it to a pharmacy where he was found huffing on a household cleaning product.

The woman told police that she believed Runyon, who she said was addicted to huffing a compressed air cleaning product called Dust-Off, may have taken her car to get more Dust-Off.

Blanc said the officer could see Runyon, who had a suspended license in the front passenger seat huffing on a can of Dust-Off.

Sgt. Simon Blanc said police were called to the city garage on Magee Avenue just after 1 p.m. Wednesday to report that a worker doing an annual inspection and maintenance on one of the city’s vacuum trucks found a pistol.

Blanc said that the .25 caliber Raven semi-automatic pistol was found wedged inside a small cage at the top of the 10-yard capacity cylinder used to collect catch basin debris on the back of the truck.

DiCarlo said that police are studying video of the theft and a description of the thief was unavailable.

Given the early morning hour of the incident, investigators are trying to determine whether the purse snatching was a crime of opportunity or the man was lying in wait for the woman.
