Stamford man charged in Kanye West sneaker robbery

STAMFORD — A city resident has been accused of robbing another man of expensive sneakers last month in North Stamford.

The arrest stems from a 911 call by a 22-year-old Stamford man, who told police three men gave him counterfeit money in exchange for three pairs of Adidas Yeezy Boost sneakers — named after Kanye West.

The lead investigator in the case, Mike Longo, said the victim met the buyer on social media. They agreed on $1,000 for the sneakers and to meet about 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 at a remote location on Summit Ridge Road.

 

Former Greenwich theater teacher avoids jail in plea bargain

STAMFORD — A former Greenwich private school theater teacher has been sentenced to two years probation for sending inappropriate texts to a 15-year-old student.

Jesse Lozano, 25, of Brooklyn, N.Y., pleaded guilty this week to felony risk of injury to a minor.

Judge John Blawie on Tuesday gave Lozano a three-year suspended jail sentence and two years probation.

 

Contractor faces more charges in generator scheme in Stamford

STAMFORD — A former Oregon man who police say ripped off Connecticut homeowners following Superstorm Sandy with a generator installation scheme was arraigned this week.

John Mech, 56, of Seaside, Ore., was extradited to Connecticut in September and faces charges for stealing generator deposits from homeowners in Stamford, Monroe and Westport.

At his arraignment Tuesday at the Stamford courthouse, his attorney Alan Friedman told Judge John Blawie his client has made restitution in three of the cases.

 

Norwalk man pleads guilty to horrific child assault

STAMFORD-A Norwalk sex offender pleaded guilty on Tuesday to reduced charges that he severely injured a two-year-old girl and is scheduled to be sentenced to four years in jail when he returns to court in mid-march. Pedro Salinas, 32, was facing up to 63 years in jail when he was arrested by Norwalk police in July 2016 and charged with a number of offenses including first-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, first and second-degree sexual assault and the intentional torture of a person under 19 years of age.

 

Former Norwalk woman sent to jail for violating probation

STAMFORD-Despite her pleas for a second chance a 54-year-old former South Norwalk restaurateur with a young son was sentenced to serve two years in jail on Tuesday for violating the probation she received for three misdemeanor convictions.

Annie Gramson, the former owner of Sweet Lucy Lynn’s on N. Main Street in Norwalk was led out of a fourth floor courtroom in handcuffs, leaving her husband Charles Hill in shock.

Gramson told Judge Gary White that she tried to do everything probation put in front of her.

 

Water main break reported in Stamford’s Waterside neighborhood

STAMFORD-The cold weather is once again reeking havoc on the city’s water supply.

Firefighters on Monday morning have confirmed a water main break on Sunnyside Avenue and requested a sander from the Department of Public Works to mitigate the icy conditions on the neighborhood street that descends onto Southfield Avenue.

The water main break was reported at 8:11 a.m. Monday and the Aquarion Water Company has been notified of the problem. There was no estimate as to when the company would be responding the area to make the fix.

Firefighters battling Summer Street apartment blaze

STAMFORD — Stamford Police are warning area residents that Summer Street is closed between Bridge and Fifth streets due to a structure fire at the Woodside Green Apartment Complex.

Firefighters are currently on scene.

Domestic dispute leads to arrest of local man

STAMFORD — A local man was arrested early Saturday morning after police responded to a domestic dispute at an apartment on Prospect Street.

Stamford Police Sgt. Sean Boeger said the dispute originated at a bar on Bedford Street where Marc Kalb, 35, got into an altercation with a woman at the bar and the woman left.

Kalb then allegedly showed up at the woman’s apartment and called her, but she refused to let him in.

Somehow, Boeger said Kalb got into the building and started banging on the woman’s door. At that point, Boeger said the woman called a male friend for help.

 

Cops arrest 2 after multiple fights break out in downtown Stamford

STAMFORD — Police arrested two people Saturday night in downtown Stamford after responding to reports of a brawl in the street.

Stamford Police Sgt. Sean Boeger said about half a dozen officers responded at about 11:30 p.m. to the area of Bedford and Spring streets after receiving reports of “multiple people fighting in the street.”

When the officers arrived, Boeger said the fights had broken up but tempers were still running hot and skirmishes soon flared up again.

 

Trinity to review post-game brawl against Norwalk

STAMFORD — Trinity Catholic’s athletic director plans to review a fight that broke out last week after a freshman boys basketball game and resulted in an assault charge for a Norwalk coach.

Trinity Catholic Athletic Director Bob Robustelli said he does not know what sparked the altercation, which occurred Friday night at the Newfield Avenue school and caused the postponement of the junior varsity and varsity games with Norwalk High School.

“We’ll look at how and why it happened and if we did something wrong, we'll handle it, and I'm sure Norwalk will do the same," Robustelli said.
