It will be a busy couple of days for local high school athletes with the Midwestern League swimming and wrestling district tournaments beginning this weekend. The MWL district swim meet will be held at the Willamalane Park Swim Center over the weekend, with finals scheduled to begin about 5 p.m.

There’s almost a living quality to Karen Perkin’s ceramic sculptures, on display now at the Emerald Art Center downtown. Bulbous and whimsical, many of the abstract pieces in her “Smoke, Soil and Stone” exhibit evoke elegant lines of a horse’s body or orchid-like floral plants.

Many middle school students spend their no-school Fridays sleeping in and playing video games. But last Friday, 20 students from Hamlin Middle School got up early and came to the University of Oregon to build their own video games.
