Deadline extended for medical pot licensure

Medical marijuana facilities have been given a 3-month extension to continue operations without a license, provided they are working toward it and have local approval.Prospective licensees who turned in state applications by the Feb. 15 deadline and are considered to be making a good-faith effort for licensure had initially faced a June 15 deadline to stop operations or risk not being approved for a license.

 

Michigan Environmental Council to host drinking water town hall meeting in Rochester

The Michigan Environmental Council (MEC) and the Rochester Junior Women's Club will hold a drinking water town hall to give residents the opportunity to learn more about their drinking water. The event, which will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on June 2 at the Rochester Hills Public Library, will offer residents the chance to learn where their drinking water comes from, how it is treated and transported and what contaminants are potentially present.

 

Pontiac State of the City Address to cover new development, youth recreation

Pontiac's 2018 State of the City Address is coming up on Monday, June 4. Deirdre Waterman, mayor of Pontiac, is expected to discuss new economic development in the city. Other topics include the settlement of long term litigation such as the six-year legal battle over the Phoenix Center amphitheater and parking garage, as well as neighborhood improvement initiatives and the city's current budget surplus.

The third of three district courts where charges have been filed against a man accused of a workplace shooting spree has held a competency hearing for the suspect, moving the case forward.Vernest Griffin, 45 of Sterling Heights, underwent a psychological evaluation earlier this year after being charged with the Feb.

 

Rochester student could advance to final round of national spelling bee

An eighth-grader from Rochester correctly spelled "podsnappery" in the second round of oral competition Wednesday, May 30, at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. keeping his hopes alive that he will advance to the final round Thursday.Rahul Reddy will receive the results of a written spelling and vocabulary test Wednesday afternoon, which will determine whether he is one of 50 spellers to make it to the final round.

 

Lyon Township man arrested for gun charge

An ongoing dispute involving housemates in Lyon Township has led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man Lyon Township for felonious assault with a firearm. Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were called to the residence in the 22000 block of Napier Road in Lyon Township on May 28 on a report of a home invasion involving a handgun.

 

Police seek help identifying Family Video larceny suspect

Waterford Township Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect involved in a larceny, allegedly taking $46 from the cash drawer at a Family Video location. Sheriff investigating assault in Orion Township

An investigation continues into a domestic assault in Orion Township that authorities believe was instigated by a 43-year-old woman who ended up unconscious and in critical condition.Deputies were initially called to an apartment in the 500 block of Kimberly on Monday afternoon on a report of an assault.
