This summer, Pontiac School District is hosting two free, recurring events for the community: Meet Up and Eat Up to provide free food to the community and Summer Movie Nights. Meet Up and Eat Up, sponsored by local agencies and administered through the state, provides free lunch to children 18 and under.

A federal judge has ordered a three year prison sentence for a Rochester Hills doctor, who pleaded guilty to a drug charge involving opiates.Dr. Chris Samy, sentenced June 6 by U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow. had faced up to 20 years in prison on one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

Clarkston concerts in the park to begin June 15

The Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce announced the line-up for the 39th season of concerts in the park. Bands will offer a variety of music for listeners, including country music, blues and jazz. All concerts are free and will happen in downtown Clarkston's Depot Park. Concessions are available and there will be free face painting and balloon twisting for kids.

Oakland County hiring its outgoing medical director as part-time physician

Dr. Pamela Hackert is leaving her post as Oakland County's medical director later this month, but will remain with the county in a more limited role. According to Lori Taylor, the county's deputy director of human resources, Hackert will be hired directly as a part-time physician. Hackert has served eight years as medical director.

 

Detroit man in stable condition after shooting at Catalpa Oaks Park in Southfield

One person is in stable condition at an area hospital after a shooting at Catalpa Oaks Park in Southfield.Southfield police responded to the county park, on Greenfield Road at Catalpa Drive, at about 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, on reports of shots fired.Officers discovered a 22-year-old Detroit man had been shot in the leg.
