Sheryl G. Arb of Oxford, was named vice president, marketing and communications of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. Arb was previously senior director of global internal communications at Kellogg Company. She has 20 years of experience media relations in brand, policy and executive communications.

Bloomfield Hills Schools officials are investigating the hacking of grades, attendance records and lunch accounts on an online student information system."At this time, we are focused on a couple of Bloomfield Hills High School students as the main suspects," said district spokeswoman Shira Good, in an email.

Last Friday, 1,200 fifth grade students from schools in the Clinton River Watershed community in Oakland County visited Oakland University for the 12th annual Clinton River Water Festival. The festival helps students learn about the vital role that water and the Clinton River play within the region.

 

Lake Orion middle school students present technology projects

Technology came to life and took over Lake Orion middle schools this month. Organized by the media specialists, students at all three middle schools presented projects that featured technology, collaboration and innovation. Scripps Middle School held their Technology Showcase on May 7, Waldon held theirs on May 17 and Oakview presented theirs via the web.

The Troy Metro Symphony Orchestra invites members of the public to its inaugural concert on Friday, June 1 at Somerset Mall, 2800 W Big Beaver Road, Troy,Music director Benjamin Klaus said he is excited about the inaugural concert and upcoming season. More than 300 Clarkston-area residents and students gathered for the official ribbon cutting to open the Clarkston Family Farm. The Clarkston Family farm began with a soft opening in 2017 offering workshops, field trips and outreach with the mission of inspiring the next generation to learn about healthy food and the value of nature, and this month marks their official opening.

Gov. Snyder recognizes Oxford Middle School eighth grader

Oxford Middle School eighth grader Carleigh Rodriguez was announced as one of 10 statewide winners in Farm Bureau Insurance's America and Me Essay Contest. The theme of the annual contest is "My Personal Michigan Hero."Rodriguez's essay earned third place in the state out of approximately 3,500 essays submitted by students from nearly 350 Michigan schools.

 

Local organizations raise awareness of mental illnesses at free health fair

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and, to raise awareness, Beaumont Health, Easterseals Michigan and the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention have teamed-up to host a free mental health fair from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30. The fair will take place in the South Tower lobby at Beaumont Hospital, 3601 W.
