JCSO: Nederland man sexually abused two girls, took video

A Nederland man has indicted on multiple counts of sexually abusing two nine year old girls and kept video evidence on his phone, records show. Eric Joseph Scott, 35, was indicted on Wednesday by a Jefferson County grand jury on four first degree felony charges. The first girl told officials that she met Scott when her mother became friends with him in November 2015. Scott would come and stay over at their house in Port Arthur.

 

Groves motorcyclist dies, second driver arrested after wreck

A 39-year-old man from Groves died late Wednesday after his motorcycle was struck by a pickup on Texas 347.
The wreck occurred at about 10:40 p.m. near 7th Avenue, according to information from the Department of Public Safety. Police say the driver of the 2013 Chevrolet truck was pulling into a private driveway on Texas 347 when he failed to yield right-of-way, hitting the passing motorcycle.
The 46-year-old truck driver, also from Groves, was arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

Passersby on 40th Street in Port Arthur would never know that the yellow house with a white rocking chair and rainbow of freshly-planted pansies out front was under several feet of water in August.
"It was like walking through a marsh," said homeowner Allen Abshire, 78.
After Harvey's floodwaters receded and the gypsum wallboard was cut out, you could see straight through Abshire's two-bedroom home into his bathroom.

 

Let the Sun Set Down over Me

While most of us are flipping down our car visors, bracing ourselves against the setting sun as we navigate the after-work traffic on highways and byways thrughout the region, we lose sight of the beauty that light is painting across the skyline of our landscape. Tyrrell Park and Cattail Marsh in Beaumont were bathed in that light Wednesday as the sun set, its marsh grasses giving way to a kaleidoscope of color in the waters surrounding them, dragon flies feasting on the clouds of gnats that hovered above, and the moss-bedraggled trees silhoutted in colorful form as night approached.
