Police search for clues in Newtown woman’s disappearance

NEWTOWN — Although it’s been almost 30 years since Regina Brown disappeared, local police still hope to crack a case that’s puzzled everyone who knew her.

Since last week, Newtown police have been searching the area around Whippoorwill Hill Road, a dead-end street off of Route 6 where the 35-year-old flight attendant lived before she vanished in 1987.

Man arrested at Danbury Library

DANBURY — A man was arrested and taken to the hospital following a disturbance Tuesday afternoon at the Danbury Library, police said.

No details were immediately available, but library officials said the suspect is an adult man.

The library, located at 170 Main St., was temporarily closed because of the damage caused during the incident. It was expected to re-open after 2 p.m.

Police said the man was taken to Danbury Hospital’s emergency room for evaluation.

 

Suspects sought in Danbury home invasion

DANBURY — Police are searching for a man and a woman who forced their way into a Prospect Street home Monday, threatened the resident and stole her purse.

The robbers were sitting in a gray SUV in front of the victim’s house when she arrived home shortly before 1 p.m., police said.

Police said the victim went inside to get water and as she was walking back outside, the driver of the SUV pushed his way into her home along with the female suspect.

 

Police seek driver who struck car on I-84 in Danbury

DANBURY — State Police are asking the public’s help in finding a driver who struck a car on Interstate 84 eastbound over the weekend.

The Acura’s rear bumper struck the left front corner of the victim’s Honda Odyssey, according to the report.

 

Crash shuts down Route 133 in Brookfield

BROOKFIELD — Brookfield Police report that Route 133 (Obtuse Hill Road) was closed as of 8 p.m. Monday to all westbound traffic, and that eastbound traffic was being diverted down Tower Road.

Scanner reports indicate that there was a major accident the roadway at about 7:30 p.m., and that an extrication was being conducted. No further details were available about the crash or about any injuries.

Police advised motorists to avoid the area while emergency crews are at work.

Police said the man rushed to the nearest Apple store and bought 16 $500 gift cards after a suspect claiming to work for the IRS called the victim May 26 and said he would be arrested if he didn’t make good on a $7,800 debt.

The only way to pay the debt, the caller said, was to buy the gift cards and provide the code numbers to the suspect.

 

Trains on schedule after another bridge problem

Last week, rail traffic came to halt Saturday afteroon after the Walk Bridge, which carries Metro-North Railroad and Amtrak trains, failed to open and close.

The bridge had been scheduled to open for a sailboat to pass about 2 p.m. ConnDOT officials said it appears that the bridge failed to open due to the thermal expansion of the centerpiece moveable span.

The latest malfunction comes as ConnDOT moves forward with an estimated $700 million plan to replace the bridge, build a rail dockyard and make track improvements in Norwalk.

 

Danbury bondswoman, husband charged with larceny

Dameisha Moore, who owns Moore Bail Bonds, and her husband and business partner, Michael Baptiste, were arrested on a warrant Thursday morning stemming from a January 2015 complaint against their company, which is located at 4 Moss Ave. — across the street from the state Superior Court.

Moore has previously been convicted of larceny and has two other larceny cases pending in court, stemming from incidents dating back to 2010 and 2014.
