Fire engulfs Newtown workshop

The exterior of the shed was already full engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Halstead said, but the homeowner was able to tell authorities where the fuel tanks were located inside the shed so they could be removed before catching on fire.

“We were able to pull most of the equipment out of the shed,” he said, adding that a drill press, lathes, saws and other tools were located in the wood shop.

 

Police charge man in Bethel stabbing

Mitchell Gleason, of Ives Street, was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct, among other charges, after police said he was found hiding along Elizabeth Street in the downtown at around 9:30 p.m. Gleason ran from police after he was discovered but was quickly taken into custody.

Police said Gleason attempted to throw away a small amount of marijuana during the ordeal and is also facing a drug possession charge.

 

Serious crash closes Route 25 in Newtown

NEWTOWN — Newtown Police said Route 25 was expected to be closed overnight after a serious crash.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m. Tuesday in front of Sand Hill Plaza, on South Main Street between Brian Lane and Cold Spring Road, police said.

The street was expected to be closed for at least eight hours, police said.

Injuries were reported, but police provided no further details.

It is not known if the closure will affect the Wednesday morning commute.

Police: Man hit another car while driving under the influence in Danbury

DANBURY—A man was taken to Danbury Hospital Saturday morning after he drove into another car while drunk, police said.

Around 4 a.m. Saturday, police responded to an accident at the intersection of Division Street and Park Ave. Raimundo Dossantos hit a car near West Street and continued driving down Division Street before hitting the garage at 45 Division Street and stopping, police said.

Dossantos was charged with evading responsibility, reckless driving, operating under the influence and improper passing. He was taken to Danbury Hospital after accident.

 

Freed from snowbank, woman flees police

By that time, three local police cruisers and a state police car followed the woman onto I-84, “but were not pursuing the vehicle,” a Connecticut State Police press release said. According to police reports, the boy lives in Redding while Bradley lives on Vista Avenue in Danbury. According to Connecticut court records, Bradley has no history of criminal convictions and no pending criminal charges.

Police: Danbury officer rescues woman after fight

DANBURY - Police said an officer rescued a woman during a traffic stop early Sunday morning after a fight with the driver.

Police charged Newtown resident Mario Guaman, 37, with operation of a motor vehicle when registration or license is refused/suspended/revoked, assault in the third degree with minor injury or intent to cause injury, strangulation in the third degree and unlawful restraint in the second degree.

 

Ridgefield residents hold vigil for Kansas shooting victims

Organized by resident Dr. Bhargavi Ramamurthy and the town’s Indian American community, the Sunday vigil featured a group of children singing the national anthem and testimonials from residents. The vigil honored the victims of a Feb. 22 shooting in an Olathe, Kan. restaurant, where one Indian American man was killed and another wounded.

 

New York men charged with stealing used cooking oil

DANBURY - Two New York men who witnesses said were stealing used cooking oil from area restuarants were arrested recently. Police, in a statement issued Wednesday, said they received a call from a restuarrant owner who said he observed two men in a white van stealing used cooking oil from behind his restuarant.
