Police: Danbury man led chase, kicked police after driving under the influence

DANBURY—A Danbury man charged with driving under the influence Friday night ran from and kicked officers during his arrest, police said.

When the officers tried to stop Huisha-Charco, police said, he began kicking them and initially refused to take a breathalyzer test.

 

New Fairfield town meeting passes two of three proposed ordinances

First Selectman Susan Chapman said the ordinance is meant to clarify and streamline the process of setting the fees, which previously needed to be done through a town meeting.

The third ordinance, which did not pass, was aimed at preventing hazardous and icy road conditions by allowing the town to address issues of water that is discharged onto town roads.

 

Danbury heroin ring busted next to police headquarters

DANBURY — Investigators busted a heroin ring this week brazenly operating out of Laurel Gardens, a public housing complex located next to police headquarters on Main Street.

Police said that as investigators were preparing to execute a search warrant, they observed Denzel Wilkins and Marrissa Palumbo in a suspected drug deal in a car parked near the apartment complex.

 

Ganim loses bid for public campaign money

HARTFORD - The State Elections Enforcement Commission on Wednesday formally voted to deny convicted felon and Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim public funding if he runs for governor.

Joshua Foley, a spokesman for the commission, said members voted unanimously to affirm a draft ruling that Ganim is not eligible for campaign money from the Citizen’s Election Program.

 

Ridgefield to hold Father’s Day refugee fundraiser

RIDGEFIELD—A Father’s Day barbecue will raise funds for Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services, a statewide nonprofit that supported a refugee family’s move to Ridgefield earlier this year.

Each ticket will include live music, food and non-alcoholic drinks.

 

Bethel police seek witnesses to crash on Grassy Plain Street

BETHEL—Police are asking for the public’s help to investigate a Thursday morning car crash on Grassy Plain Street.

In a Facebook post, Bethel police asked for any witnesses of the accident, which happened near the intersection of Greenwood Avenue, to come forward. Police said the crash occured between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Thursday.

A dispatcher on Saturday said there is still no additional information about the accident.

Purported burglar arrested in Newtown

Police said that after responding to the home, they learned that Andrew Korngiebel, 27, of Greenbriar Lane, had walked into an open garage on the property and went into a vehicle to steal an item that was not identified.

[...] investigation revealed that Korngiebel also had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on a narcotics charge, police said.

 

Newtown man charged with making pipe bombs

Federal officials were called in to assist with the probe and to further examine the bombs, which authorities said were improvised explosive devices containing a wick and highly flammable material.

Barry was charged with two counts each of illegal possession of explosives, manufacture of bombs, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

 

Police looking for purse thieves in Danbury

DANBURY - Police in Woodbury are searching for a two individuals who they believe have used stolen credit cards at retailers in the city.

Authorities said that an unidentified man and woman entered the Labonnes Market in Woodbury on Friday, June 9 and stole a wallet from a woman’s purse.

 

Man arrested after New Milford home invasion

Mark Benoit, 45, is being held on a $500,000 bond and faces numerous charges including home invasion, first-degree-burglary, third-degree assault and interfering with a police officer.

Authorities said Benoit, who is known to the victims, had forced his way into the house and was fighting with the residents when police officer arrived about 11 p.m. Benoit also struggled with officers but was eventually taken into custody with the assistance of K-9 Kira, police said.
