NEW FAIRFIELD—The Republican and Democratic town committees have endorsed their slates of candidates for the upcoming elections in November. Susan Chapman, the Republican incumbent, was endorsed for her third full term as first selectman. She will be joined on the ticket with incumbent selectman Kim Hanson, also a Republican. Two members of the Inlands and Wetlands Conservation Commission received the endorsement from the Democratic Town Committee to run against Chapman and Hanson for the positions.

Officials with the department said police had received a tip earlier this month that women were engaging in prostitution at various locations in town through advertisements that were placed on Backpage.com, a classified advertising website that has reportedly been used in the past as a messaging board for prostitution.

Police said undercover officers responded to an ad posted on Backpage for sexual services at the Howard Johnson motel on Stony Hill Road on July 7 when Lilian Dossantos, 34, of Danbury was arrested after offering to perform sexual acts in exchange for money.

NEW MILFORD — A man was found unconscious in a backyard pool Wednesday afternoon.

The 80-year-old was found in the pool after police responded within minutes of a 1:40 p.m. call to dispatch. Police are still on scene investigating, said Lt. Larry Ash, spokesman for the New Milford Police Department.

The man is receiving medical attention on scene, Ash said, adding that it seems to be accidental and not suspicious.

More information wasn’t immediately available, police said.

DANBURY — A 37-year-old man was arrested by police working the bar watching shift around 1 a.m. Monday, accused of responding to requests to leave a bar with a beer-bottle assualt.

Medina faces third-degree assualt and disorderly conduct charges, and was released on a promise to appear in court after appearing in state Superior Court in Danbury and pleading not guilty.

Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield closed to new vehicles at 12:30 p.m. Saturday because the parking lot reached capacity. The parking limit is 250 cars and is set by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. This is the sixth time the park has reached capacity this season. It last reached capacity on July 16.

DARIEN — Police confirmed some kind of “chlorine exposure” Saturday afternoon at a country club in Darien. No further information regarding what caused the exposure or if anyone was injured was immediately available, a Darien police dispatcher said. The dispatcher was not able to confirm what country club the incident occurred at or exactly what time, but reports indicated the incident happened around 3:15 p.m.

NEW FAIRFIELD — A Guatemalan immigrant who is married to a U.S. citizen and has two American-born children faces deportation next month, despite years of effort to obtain legal status. Colindrés said a mix-up with paperwork made him miss a court date more than a decade ago, ultimately resulting in an order for his removal, which in turn created a barrier to his getting legal status. Immigration authorities ordered him to buy a one-way ticket to Guatemala, departing on Aug. 17.

An official with the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company said that the garage was fully involved when they arrived but they were able to quickly extinguish the flames before the fire entered the rest of the home.

While police have yet to release the identity of the couple who were severely injured while riding their motorcycle, friends and relatives have confirmed that the Falls were sent to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport after the crash. According to police, the couple was traveling north on Route 25 when Hyundai Sonata traveling southbound crossed the yellow line around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday and hit their motorcycle head on.

Police said Samuel Mills, 48, turned himself in to police this week after learning there was a warrant for his arrest on a number of charges including second-degree assault and second-degree robbery.

Police said Mills and Harry Thompson, 42, of Waterbury, were responsible for attacking two men on Dr. Aaron B. Samuels Blvd on July 2 during a street robbery and took the victim’s money and and cell phones.
