Police identify car used in fatal Brookfield hit-and-run

BROOKFIELD—Police have identified the car that was used in a hit-and-run accident that killed a woman Monday night. The car, which fatally hit a Brookfield woman on Sandy Lake near the intersection with Homestead Lane around 6 p.m., is a grey or silver four-door sedan, police said. Authorities are still looking for who was driving the car at the time of the accident. The car has a turn indicator on the side or side mirror and will likely have damage on the front bumper, hood or windshield, police said.

 

Redding firefighters battling blaze close Route 58

REDDING - Firefighters battling a blaze near a home on Route 58 have shut down the roadway.

Officials said Friday at around 11 a.m. that Route 58 has been closed between Giles Hill Road and Beach Lane while firefighters respond to a structure fire in the area. Firefighters with the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department, including their tanker truck, are providing mutual aid at this time.

Tankers from the Danbury Fire Department were called in for mutual aid as well as crews from the Brookfield fire department.

More information on the nature of the fire was not immediately available.

 

Police find car of missing Danbury woman

DANBURY - The car of a 53-year-old city woman who went missing late last month has been recovered by New York police. Authorities said Thursday that a car belonging to Laelcira DeLima was located abandoned Tuesday afternoon at the Putnam Diner in Patterson, NY. Police did not immediately say if foul play is suspected in her disappearance. DeLima was reported missing by her family members on Oct. 20. Authorities said DeLima left her home around 5 p.m. on Oct. 20 and was never heard from again.

 

Brookfield woman killed in hit and run crash

BROOKFIELD - A female pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit and run accident at the intersection of Sandy and Homestead lanes on Monday night.

Police say the victim is an adult resident of Brookfield. The name of the victim is currently being withheld at this time.

The accident happened at approximately 6:10 p.m.

 

Fire contained at Danbury industrial complex

DANBURY - Firefighters have a blaze under control that broke out inside an industrial tank inside Commerce Park Monday.

Officials said the fire erupted around 7 a.m. Monday inside an exterior “scrubbing” tank that is located at Bedoukian Research on Finance Drive. The company makes perfumes and other scents and the the scrubbing tank filled with carbon, according to Assistant Fire Chief Mark Omasta.

He said there are three scrubbing tanks located at the industrial site but only one caught fire Monday morning.

 

New Milford mayoral candidates debate roads, finances

NEW MILFORD — Friday’s mayoral debate between challenger Pete Bass, a Republican, and Democratic incumbent David Gronbach drew out stark differences between the two candidates on issues ranging from the town’s approach to road projects to the role of the Board of Finance in town government. One of the few things they agreed on was support for the New York Mets rather than the Yankees or Red Sox.

 

Ridgefield bed and breakfast goes to second hearing Wednesday

RIDGEFIELD—The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a second public hearing Wednesday on a couple’s plan for a bed and breakfast on Circle Drive.

The first hearing on the proposal drew about 100 residents and ended with more than 30 residents still waiting to speak.

 

Police: Danbury man charged with DUI after Saturday morning hit-and-run

DANBURY—A man was charged with driving under the influence early Saturday morning after officers saw him drive away after rear-ending another car.

Danbury resident Rene Obdulio Perez-Santiago, 32, hit another car on Mill Plain Road around midnight before driving away, police said. When officers who saw the accident caught up with him down the road, they could smell alcohol on his breath and performed a sobriety test.

Police said Perez-Santiago had a blood alcohol content of 0.27, more than three times the legal limit. He told officers at the scene that he had had six beers, police said.

 

Danbury and New Milford hospitals reach agreement with union

Connecticut Health Care Associates has reached a tentative contract agreement with Danbury and New Milford hospitals, just over a year after welcoming the hospitals’ employees into the union. “This is the furthest we’ve gotten in the process,” said Jason Riccio, the staff representative at CHCA and the lead negotiator. The agreement was reached just days before a rally the union had staged for Saturday, in which they planned to demand a final contract and respect on the job. That rally, to be held at 1 p.m. in Broadview Middle School, will now become a celebration.

 

Danbury police make arrests in shooting

DANBURY - Police have arrested four men in connection to a shooting on the west side of the city in September that forced the lockdown of two city schools. The shooting occurred on the afternoon of Sept. 14 when a 20-year-old man at a home on Church Hill Road was shot twice, once in each arm, with what authorities described as bird shot ammunition. The victim is recovering from the injuries. While relatives have said the victim had asked the men to move their car when the shooting began, police said Friday the men went to the home that day with the sole purpose of robbing him.
