Tarrywile Park holds its first Easter egg hunt

DANBURY — Over 100 kids, colorful baskets at hand, anxiously waited around Tarrywile Park on Saturday afternoon for the cue from event organizer Meghan Friedland.

In a mad dash, the groups started searching for candy-filled Easter eggs in three seperate areas of the park — one for children under 5, another for ages 6 through 8 and a third for ages 9 through 12.

All items in the raffle baskets were donated by local businesses, and all profits from raffle tickets, entry fees and Easter bunny photos would be donated to Tarrywile Park.

 

Police: Danbury man causes damage, flees while driving under the influence

DANBURY—A Danbury man caused severe damage in a residential neighborhood Friday while driving under the influence, police said.

Aires Carneiero, 57, told police he was coming from a bar on Main Street when they arrived at the scene on Boat Road at 1:20 a.m. Friday.

 

Police: Woman knocked unconscious and robbed by Danbury man

Police said West asked for money before punching the woman in the back of the head, knocking her temporarily unconscious.

The woman became conscious again, according to police, when West punched her in the face and she then dropped $80.

 

Danbury carjacking leads to police pursuit, school lockdowns

DANBURY - Police appear to have at least three suspects in custody after a car jacking at around 10 a.m. Friday in the Great Plains area of the city near the Danbury Town Park that forced two local schools into lockdown.

Preliminary police reports indicate that a car was taken by knife-point in the area and police were able to pursue the vehicle, which at one point entered the parking lot of St. Gregory School during the chase.

 

Route 7 closure in New Milford slows commute

NEW MILFORD - Much of the traffic through Route 7 was forced to detour through the downtown area and other secondary roads Thursday morning as a result of an overnight accident that closed the main commuting artery.

Police said that while there were no injuries reported as a result of the accident, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a utility pole was broken in half and fell across the roadway along with a plethora of wires.

 

Southbury woman dies after head on collision

Police said Delores Hake, 86, died at Danbury Hospital from injuries she received when the car she was a passenger in, a GMC Terrain, was hit by an oncoming Buick LeSabre driven by Bridgeport resident Terrelle Anderson, 32.

While were very early in the investigation, preliminary findings, indicate that the operator, Terrelle Anderson of Bridgeport CT, crossed over the double yellow center line and collided with Forest Herron who was traveling in the opposite direction where the two vehicles collided head on, said Lt.Aaron Bahamonde, a spokesman for the police department.

 

Driver killed in Woodbury crash

WOODBURY - A New York man was killed Tuesday afternoon during a head on collision on Goodhill Road.

Police said James Hinican, of Grahamsville, NY, was killed after his car, a Honda Civic crossed over the double yellow line at around 2:20 p.m. and into an oncoming vehicle. Hinican was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of dthe other vehicle was sent to Waterbury Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

Tractor trailer accident on I-84 snarls traffic

NEWTOWN - Traffic is backed up for more than five miles along Interstate 84 after an accident involving two tractor-trailer trucks has closed the westbound lanes of the highway.

Troopers with the State Police were allowing some motorists to get through the area through the right emergency lane, authorities said, but that lane was closed temporarily to allow the tow trucks to do their work.

 

Danbury man charged with threatening

BETHEL - A Danbury man who police say threatened to shoot a local resident has been taken into custody.

Terral Belin, 23, of Oil Mill Road, was charged with second-degree threatening early Monday morning. Police said they received a complaint from an unidentified man who said Belin has threatened to shoot him. The claim was corroborated by witnesses. It was not clear if Belin had access to a firearm when he purportedly made the threat.

Belin was released on a $1,500 bond and is set to appear in court for his arraignment hearing on April 17.

Ridgefield police increase patrols for distracted driving

U PAY. initiative, the department will increase its patrols on certain days during April to look for those using cell phones while driving. The department will use funds from the state Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office to pay for the initiative.
