DANBURY — A wrong-way collision killed one person Friday night in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near Exit 3, and caused a stretch of the highway to be closed for five hours.

While Danbury and Connecticut State Police investigated, traffic was detoured off the interstate around the crash scene, and that portion of the highway remained closed until 4 a.m. Saturday, the statement said.

BROOKFIELD—Stony Hill Road between Pocono Ridge Road and Gray’s Bridge Road will be closed until 5 p.m. Saturday for roadwork.

Brookfield police announced on Facebook that the town’s public works team will be working on the road from 6:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday.

Police advised that cars use an alternate route by using Pocono Ridge Road West Whisconier Road.

REDDING—About 100 people came out for a book release party Thursday for Mia Callot, a Redding Elementary School student who wrote a book about autism.

The book was published and will be donated to local schools to help educate kids about autism.

Mia wrote the book last year while in second grade. She was inspired by her younger brother Matteo, who is autistic.

The book aims to educate children her age about autism and show how to interact with autistic peers. She said she hopes it will reduce the stigma associated with autism.

Jose Flete, 48, was taken into custody by members of the Unemployment Compensation Fraud Unit of the state’s attorney’s office and charged with first-degree larceny.

Police said they received several complaints of drug activity in the area of Bishop’s apartment, and further investigation revealed behavior consistent with drug dealing.

According to court records, Bishop served an 18-month prison after being convicted of a first-degree robbery charge in April 2013.

Even with hazy skies and scattered showers, residents spent the day outside learning, volunteering and celebrating Earth Day.

Redding’s Rid Litter Day took place Saturday on the Town Green, where volunteers were given vests, gloves and trash bags to pick up litter on designated town roads and facilities.

The Lion’s Club led a “lose the litter” event around the streets of Newtown as the first part of an all-day Earth Day Festival, complete with a birds of prey exhibit, a silent auction, live music and kids activities.

NEWTOWN - A 27-year-old Newtown woman was killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday night on Currituck Road.

Schultz was transported from the scene by the Newtown Ambulance, but was pronounced deceased at Danbury Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

State police said a driver was headed southbound on Route 39 at 12:50 a.m. when he or she lost control of the car and crashed into a utility pole in front of 85 Route 39.

First Selectman Susan Chapman said the road is expected to be closed until at least 2 p.m.

Police said a person, caught on surveillance video, broke into the window of a work van on Bridge Street.

DANBURY - The murder trial of Garfield Sanderson was thrown into limbo last week after the defense attorney was hospitalized for an undisclosed illness. The trial, which began with jury selection in January, has focused on feuding between rival Bridgeport gangs, of which Sanderson and Kingston were purported members, and on accusations of witness-tampering and intimidation by Sanderson.
