Ohio State awakens in 2nd half to defeat Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — If you can’t beat them any other way, out-run them.
Ohio State used two big plays where receivers, with the help of some blocks, took short passes from quarterback J.T. Barrett and turned them into long touchdowns to hold off an upset bid by Indiana with a 49-21 victory Thursday night.
No. 2 OSU never led until five minutes into the second half, then saw that lead disappear when Indiana scored on its next possession to go in front 21-20.
That’s when the tide turned. In a big way with big plays.

Bengals close preseason with loss to Colts

INDIANAPOLIS — Few questions were answered heading into the preseason as the Colts and Bengals played a difficult to watch 7-6 game won by Indianapolis on Thursday night.
Phillip Walker’s fourth-quarter, 29-yard touchdown pass to Justice Liggins was enough to give the Colts the win in a fourth and final preseason game full of position battles. With less than 48 hours until rosters will be cut to 53, both Cincinnati and Indianapolis had key spots undecided. Each team walks away with a lot of uncertainty still remaining.

Browns finish preseason by shutting out Bears

CHICAGO — Mitchell Trubisky got an opportunity to start and little chance to show what he can do, completing just two passes for the Chicago Bears in a 25-0 preseason-ending loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
Trubisky started with Mike Glennon and veteran Mark Sanchez resting for the opener against Atlanta next week. But after dazzling at times with his play in the preseason and sparking a quarterback controversy in Chicago, he simply didn’t get to make many throws in this game.

An elite eight of Ohio State football openers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Exactly how Ohio State’s opening game against Indiana on Thursday night will be remembered is a matter of opinion and that opinion could take a while to come together.
Until then, here’s a look at some of the most memorable Ohio State openers going back to the days when Woody Hayes was on the Buckeyes’ sideline.

Life without parole for Lima man

LIMA — An Allen County jury deliberated for less than an hour Thursday afternoon before finding Ross McWay guilty of aggravated murder in the Jan. 15 death of Lima resident Wendy Jeffers.
Judge Jeffrey Reed immediately sentenced McWay, 38, to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Defense attorney Steven Chamberlain had asked Reed to consider a lesser sentence sentence, but acknowledged that such leniency would be “treating my client better than he deserves.”
